1. Will Muschamp - my first choice. Intensity, great defense, and knows what personnel it takes. Connection to Saban. Our players wouldn’t be as quick to hit the portal.

2. Manny Diaz - has been in the SEC. Understands what it takes to put a good product on the field. Improved Penn State’s D (he’s at Duke, I didn’t know this)

Actual 2. Charlie Strong. There’s a reason Saban never put him in an on-field role or in the DC spot itself, so I’m not sure what happened there, but he’s been an analyst for 2-3 years hasn’t he? I know what he’s capable of defensively, so he would be a good option.

Doubt he will be giving up the job as head coach at Duke to come be our DC.

Manny Diaz is now the HC at Duke. Watch football outside of Alabama any?

Go get Schumann. Let Kirby know artillery fire can come from both directions. He might be ready to have his own defense at his alma mater

First call is to see how happy Minter is in Ann Arbor.
Then Schumann.

So the guy who just stepped down at UGA to spend time with family and the guy who just got hired to be the head coach of Duke. Those sound like wonderful options.

Got anymore bright ideas?

i definitely be backing up the money truck to Schumann, for one to frick with Smart. You want Robinson, here he can be your DC for the first time in his career. Plus Schumann is a good coach and recruiter

We shouldn’t settle for unproven talent. This was DeBoer’s weakness. Get the best. Jesse Minter has to be considered.

My main hope is it’s a 3-4 DC like Leonard. I absolutely hate the 4-3, it’s just not flexible enough in personnel for spreads

It will be interest to see who he picks. I would be nervous if he brought in the Washington staff cause to my untrained eye it looked more like Golding era defense. I know some people love TRob, and I love him as a recruiter, but I would definitely have some worries about calling the D at the beginning. I will give him some talent/injury grace, but the 5 years he spent at South Carolina he had one top 50 Defense. Considering you come to Bama to in part go to the NFL I hope we can find somebody with some fairly recent NFL experience who runs a modern scheme and he and CKD can built an elite coaching/recruiting staff around him.

Wouldn’t hate Dave Aranda since he’s on the hot seat. Not sure how he’d feel about even getting that call.
