When will we get a formal announcement on these hires?

Not sure about when on the Bama side but Wommack resigned from USA

From the USA Athletic Department website:
quote:

Kane Wommack has resigned from his position as head football coach at the University of South Alabama, the school announced Tuesday morning.

I don’t really care about RW, but Caleb Downs could easily be the best returning football player in the country and he’s got two years left

We do whatever it takes to keep him

You really think thats why Kirby hired him ? To recruit one kid ?

I highly doubt that. I think he thinks hes a good coach and recruiter.

Wommack and TRob can both be good coaches, but one of them is definitely a better CB coach, and maybe the other a better DC

Sounds like TRob wasnt a good fit for DeBoer so best things shook out the way they did.

Downs’ family and Saban have been close for a while, his older brother is Josh Downs from UNC if anyone remembers If you check his dad’s twitter, he’s liking all of the Alabama player announcements of guys staying, the DeBoer hire, and guys being hired to the staff. I think we’re fine so long as we don’t magically fumble this thing

That’s great news!

Caleb Downs

I think he will stay, and agree hes the most important player to retain.

Have we ever won a title without an elite safety ?

Wasnt it an injured Eddie Jackson trying to signal the rub play to the DBs from the sideline during the natty vs clemson ?

I believe getting in-roads to the players in our defensive secondary was a factor in him hiring TRob

Look even I said keeping TRob could be good for continuity, but if he was offered a full-DC role here and passed it up to be a co-DC at another school in the conference, I'm skeptical of the guy's confidence in being solely responsible for the defense. I don't know for sure that's what happened, but it seems like both sides are saying that was the case, so I don't really have a reason to not believe it

In the meantime we got a dude that has already been a D1 head coach, and a DC at a P5 school. He has inroads to the Mobile area and the state in general, which is going to be critical in recruiting with a good state crop of players coming up.

Those that are upset with the hire seem to simply not be familiar wit the dude we got, wanted a "splash name hire" instead

Not true. We wanted TRob to prevent multiple losses on the defense. Specifically the defensive backfield and because he’s a great coach and recruiter,

He was offered. He decided he wasn't ready for it, and he moved on.

I suggest you do too.

FIFY

We can be honest and still have a good hire in Wommack to replace him. Sounds like everyone is very high on Wommack so maybe it worked out for the best.

We don't know for a fact if he was offered or not. Maybe his interview didn't go well.

I wasn’t bashing the kid, but he’s 100x more replaceable than Downs. That’s just facts.

I hope we land him, but keep in mind he’ll be a 17 year old freshman matching up with grown arse men

Keep trying harder to take his throne as the worst poster on this board because it's neck and neck right now!

This is where I'm at. He's very fast, and a good WR obviously. But at the end of the day, he's still a year behind in development and expecting him to just come in and ball out as the defacto youngest guy on the field regardless of who we are playing is presumptuous at best

I hope we can get him back in the fold, but if not we'll have a chance to find other options come spring

Agreed. Give me a 20 year old freshman Calvin Ridley over a 17 year old any day
