Per Brock Huard, DeBoer will likely bring much of his staff to Alabama

So why did DeBoer leave? Aside from Alabama being a top program in the country, Huard thinks this had to do with taking care of DeBoer’s staff, which is filled largely by coaches he’s worked with for many, many years.
“I think for Kalen DeBoer to climb from where he’s been all over the place … he looked at that and he looked at (Ryan) Grubb and he looked at William Inge and he looked at his guys and said, ‘You want to do this? I’m gonna take the shot,'” he said. “And I’d be very hard pressed to believe, Bump and Stacy, that he looked in the mirror and it was his decision for him. I think this was for his staff.”

“Really, just knowing Kalen as the most genuine selfless dude that I have seen in that seat right there with (former UW head coach) Chris Petersen, and much like Chris Petersen turned down jobs over the years because his staff didn’t want to go with him and he couldn’t get everybody (to go with him), this is one that I think the whole squad goes down there,” Huard later added.

Huard thinks DeBoer’s staff is also a key reason Alabama had interest. Because no one person can fill Saban’s shoes, Huard said, he Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne decided he wanted to get a coach with a staff that’s done a lot together and trusts each other and had success.
Based on all that, Huard doesn’t think Grubb, UW’s big-name offensive coordinator, is going to get promoted to head coach of the Huskies.
“I don’t think Washington’s gonna be elevating Ryan Grubb. Coming off where they’re coming off last two years going into the Big Ten, they’re going to need someone that’s been there before and sat in the seat,” he said.
The current Washington staff has minimal SEC experience, their tight ends coach was a GA at Tennessee for two years and their defensive line coach held the same position at Vanderbilt for a season.

Including the guy in charge of clock management?

This is going to be interesting. Bringing the whole crew to the SEC to a job with the old GOAT looking over your shoulder and a fanbase that has no qualms burning down houses. Interesting indeed.

Brilliant. Lock down the PAC NW recruits and dominate like never before.

Didn’t harsin do something similar?

I'm a big Nick Sheridan fan (thier TE coach)...from my hometown in MI. Good young coach and from a football coaching family.

Didn't BK want to, but they refused?

That’s a lot of “thinks” in those statements.

Except you are. Haskins brought most of his staff too.

I think I’d be happy with him bringing Ryan Grubb. Apparently he was under consideration by Saban last year for OC. They also have a really good receivers coach, and with the talent Alabama has at receiver, he should have a lot to work with.

While this speaks very highly of him as an individual and as a boss, uh...

That’s going to be awkward when he gets there and realizes Saban has the majority of his staff picked for him.

Better wait and see how many stay.
