Because the guy didn't recruit and then up and left. He was a successful Harsin to them and left the program in worse shape than when he got it.

How is taking over a 4-8 team and getting them to title game two years later leaving them in worse shape?

What?

They were 4-8 the year before he got there.

Saban recruiting was about to fall off anyway. The specter of inevitably retiring was only getting larger and larger

Saban was actually a really great recruiter relative to Mich St.

Plaxico, Mushin Muhammad, TJ Duckett just to name a few.

Honestly, I think he can learn and/or hire great recruiters. I don’t think we can underestimate his experience with a playoff system. There aren’t many coaches in D 1 that have experience with going through a multiple team playoff. At least to the extent DeBoers has. So, I think the recruiting issue will take care of itself, or he will be run out of town. Honestly, I think Byrne was playing 3D chess because of his playoff experience

It's the biggest unknown for DeBoer. That and his meteoric rise are the only two concerns on the dude's resume. It still looks to be a solid hire though. Only time will tell.

could write pages about some of the WTF recruits we lost under KDB. He might be a worse recruiter than Chip Kelly. Idk how Bama plans to address this issue because it will be an absolutely glaring issue if not addressed. Courtney Morgan is a bum too. There was absolutely zero closers on this staff outside of Shepherd and Huff, and I’ll be surprised if either wind up at Bama.

Oof, morgan the guy DaBear just named GM.

I really hope this dude isnt going Dabo on us with his staff.

I got flamed all to hell this morning for saying I thought it would have been wise to keep TRob - zero chance this Morgan fellow can pull blue chips the way TRob did, but i suppose we gonna see it play out.

Courtney Morgan isn't a coach though.

Hasnt he been put in charge of recruiting the existing team ? As in our entire roster ?

Hes a coach on the payroll that cant possibly be as good as Trob. Some of you go look at TRob recruiting bio and see the recruits he has landed. Hes been one of the best in the country, period.

Im not blaming DeBear... if anything Saban or Byrne should have tied him to a chair until DeBear could at least talk to him.

Its over now though. Just sharing my thoughts.

He has been the head man for less than a day.

Give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to assembling a staff of recruiters and coaches.

He coached Penix at Indiana. And even back then people were bragging on DeBoer.

I'm not worried about his recruiting, I just hope people give him time to get things together the way he wants them without immediately second guessing every decision.

Yeah, no doubt man.

Its just hard knowing the only thing standing between guys like Caleb Downs and OSU or UGA is a guy none of us or our players have ever heard of. Really wish we had one familiar face there to assure them that this is all gonna work out.

IMO TRob could have helped with that. Maybe CNS is allowed to help out until the staff is in place

He is over the NIL for the players. People should read up before they spout crap.

Anyone making the Harsin comparison is outing themselves as an idiot. Harsin walked into the group of five equivalent of Alabama and underachieved relative to his predecessor. Many of us pegged that as a losing hire for Auburn from the start. DeBoer came into a program that had just gone 4-8 and had the head coach punch a player on national television. It's not even remotely like Harsin's resume.

Besides, if you look at Washington's recruitment over the years, DeBoer actually did better than most there. This is a mid tier program in an area that is not football first and is far removed from the talent rich states. What you're seeing there is cope from people who are both angry that he left and out of touch with the reality of their program.

They’ve been reading too many Aub posts if they’re regurgitating the Harsin crap relative to CKD. Like Auburn people have any clue what elite SEC caliber coaches look like.

This is up there with the post

"I'm glad Bama hired him....he called a horrible game in the NC"

Dude seemingly knows how to coach and how to get players peaked at the right time. Hes done this a multiple levels ...so he either can't recruit but can get the absolute most out of the on field talent he's got or...he can recruit some ( and still get the most out of players). You can't win /participate in championships at multiple levels with out doing one of the two. I'm ok with either ( but its more likely some of both)
