It's college football. It's not enough to support a team, you must hate other teams even more.

Solid, not elite hire. Solid, not elite results. Both struck out on top choices (probably) and had to throw cash to avoid an unexpected delay from turning into a fiasco.
I think he's got as much hope for success as anyone else, and will be a downgrade just as anyone else would have been. I do wonder how well Bama has been able to vet this dude. Especially for someone with minimal ties (which I agree isn't the end of the world), personalities can be huge.
