Earlier in the day, Saban interviewed candidates for his vacant wide receivers coach opening, according to sources, and didn’t give any indication he was about to flip the college football world upside down. He told some staff members of a 4 p.m. team meeting but did not tell them ahead of time that he was going to retire with multiple indicating surprise at his decision.
He also participated in his regular SEC head coaches call on Wednesday morning and was actively involved in the discussion, even becoming animated at times during the call, according to sources.
When Saban finally told the team, it left the room stunned. The team was told that Alabama hoped to have its next head coach in place in the next 72 hours, according to sources.

Hearing that Ms. Terry was diagnosed with Alzheimers in august.

That he was interviewing WR coach candidates this morning makes this seem really sudden. I really hope this isn’t due to something serious with his health or the health of Mrs. Terry.

He's the GOAT, would you expect anything less? I will always remember when they interviewed him on the plane ride back to Tuscaloosa after he just won a natty and he had an iPad out, because he was already preparing for next year.

It was always going to be sudden like this. He wasn't going to stop doing his job before the announcement.

Maybe the some medical test order earlier came back with some news he was not expecting and wanted to enjoy retirement for as long as he can, respect the man’s decision

No way they expect to have it filled in 72 hours if he spring this on them today

Cowheard said on his show that Saban & an unnamed tv network have agreed to a "massive tv contract" which will be announced in a short period of time. Mentioned the Duck Commercial as a clue. FWIW.

truly hope its not health issues for him or Mrs. Terry.. was hoping he was ready to enjoy the golden years & grandkids, but that article raises some questions/concerns..
if it is health related surely everyone will respect the man's wishes/privacy and the Saban family can deal with whatever comes next away from the chaos and spotlights involved with big time athletics.
