Jalen went from a "low IQ" Qb (Bama) to a Prolific Passer (OU) to an near MVP (NFL)

"Rolls right and throws it out of bounds" ... JALEN.
Can SABAN develop an athletic duel threat QB? Or should he just just stick to the more pellucid pro-style types.
We seem to have a tendency to attribute Milroes slow decision-making to a general dull wittedness.
For the most part we said the same about Hurts.
We tend to think that a fast thinker at qb is just sort of born that way.
Maybe we have no business taking on a project like Milroe. Maybe we are all sort of cut from the same cloth as Bill Obrien when it comes to these super athletes who seem too slow to deal with modern defenses. Just one look and we see a linebacker or a tight end.
"It's too bad. He has such a strong arm and is fast enough to take it to the house at any moment. But the mental makeup isn't there. He's no qb."
In four years, we never taught Jalen the position of QB. Oklahoma and the Philladelphia Eagles made him a qb.
Saban doesn't know how to coach Milroe. Tommy Reese doesn't either. If Sarc had coached him maybe he would miraculously become a quicker decision maker. Or maybe Kiffin.
But we gave him Obrien and Reese.
If you look back at my posting history you will see that I was 100% a Hurts hater from the moment Tua arrived. I was sure he just didn't have the quick mind to play the position at a high level.
"ROLL RIGHT AND THROW IT IN THE STANDS JALEN."
But now I have to say, he was very Fortunate to be benched against Georgia. AND HE WAS fortunate that Tua displaced him.
Because if there had been no Tua and he had stayed with Saban, he would not be where he is today. There just wasn't the expertise on this staff to develop him.
Coach Saban. Maybe you should bring in a QB coach... the right QB coach... and fast.

Did you miss Jalen Hurts in 2018 vs UGA in the SEC title game? That was the same Hurts OU got and the same guy in the NFL. He worked on his game and transcended to the player he is today at Alabama in his final year here.
Milroe has to do the same. Fundamentally and mentally.
This notion that OU turned Hurts into the QB he is today is such a casual low IQ take.

If you are going to develop a QB they need to be developed as much as possible before becoming a starter.
You can't win it all playing with a QB that is "developing" for 3 or 4 yrs.

I don’t think Saban is on this forum so I doubt he gets your message.
But… if I was you I would drive to Tuscaloosa and explain things to him. I’m sure he would make time for you.

Jalen and the running backs should have kept running in the CFP Championship Game vs Clemson while still up

your op as usual is barely legible. completely incoherent drivel. begging you to post less.

To OP
TLDR - Jalen Milroe should go to OU and try to replicate hurts decision and success?
We couldn’t get that lucky

You make an excellent point. Sark and Kiffin are excellent QB developers, but not the greatest HC's out there (very good but not great). Lincoln Riley appears to be the best QB coach out there, but he's trying to be a HC, and the jury's still out.
If USC eventually cuts him loose, and I was the HC of an elite college football program, I'd give him the checkbook, and tell him to fill it in, then I'd sign it!

Mac Jones came to Alabama as a lightly recruited 3 star prospect and if it wasn’t for his own teammate winning it, he’d probably have won the Heisman his last season here. Shouldn’t Saban and staff get some credit there for development?

Hurts wasn't low iq. Milroe is.

Never once heard anyone refer to Jalen Hurts as "low IQ" while he was at Alabama, period. People questioned his field vision due to his height, sure. Some even questioned his ability to make all the throws for his first year or two. He worked hard, and improved while at Alabama, and was beloved for his grit. He put up bigger numbers at Oklahoma for three reasons. The defenses in the Big 12 sucked compared to the SEC. He stayed in for entire games at Oklahoma instead of a half, or maybe 3 quarters, in games at Alabama. He had to put up bigger numbers to win at Oklahoma.

I will say that maybe there is something to us failing with dual threat type QBs and that’s because we don’t adjust our offense enough. It’s not a development issue. More so our offensive system not being suited to highlight a dual threat QB’s ability.
Although this year with Milroe…he isn’t good at read option runs or RPO. Not much you can do with that schematically if the QB isn’t good at it.
That’s gotta be fixed as well. No excuse a 4th year college QB can’t run read option. I mean come on.

Sweet. Maybe Milroe will transfer to USC and become an NFL star. IDGAF. I want BAMA to win.

Back to 2018 jalen in the last 7 or so games. The cycle is complete, he's gone full circle.

I don't think Hurts was ever a "low IQ" QB. He was inexperienced, raw, and inaccurate, and had "protect the ball" drilled into his head. He got better each season and improved his accuracy. He also was forced to start before he was ready. This was Milroe's 3rd season. His mechanics are still awful. One has to wonder what he does in the offseason.
