They are extremely optimistic about any news that comes out currently and rightfully so after the last two years. They don't care about replacing 5 star guys with players from Old Dominion and Cal Poly. They're immediate upgrades in their minds.
Elko is cooking and it doesn't matter what they get. The man could sign a turnip to play WR and they'd spin it into a good thing. And if anyone doesn't agree with how good they are then they get banned from their community.

Would you rather have a player that stood out at a small school or washed out at a big school? A&M is up to #3 now in the portal rankings.
Still have a lot of talent on the current roster and adding solid veterans is ok in my book. DGAF where they came from.

It's sort of the whole job of a fan to create excitement and have optimism. Having realistic expectations is also critical, but.... hello, that's what fans are supposed to do. Find a positive spin and help the team get momentum.

I convinced myself of the same when we signed a bunch of FCS transfers in the secondary last year. You saw the result.

Elko is using the portal to fill gaps, and he is filling the roster out with his type of players. Need help in secondary, DL depth, WR, and LB. Guess what positions the portal players play at ...
Fisher had no damned idea what the portal is. I think A&M will be better under Elko. Gone are the days of T5 recruiting classes, but I love the "coaches" Elko picked up for this team. Still have a ton of talent that is bought in, and added some real depth ...
Add a real S&C coach to boot, and an actual coach for special teams. So far Elko is making all the right moves for the short term to be successful.
