This is not a new take a few of us have seen the writing on the wall since the hire of Rees. Notre Dame’s offense got significantly better since he left. It’s 2024 and playing in 12 personnel 90% of the time won’t work. We rarely ever use pre snap motion to confuse the defense or attack their weaknesses. No quick passes. Slants should’ve Milroes best friend and the few times they were called he threw them beautifully. Not one trick play all year. So many wanna make milroe the scapegoat for Rees but they never watched him at Notre dame. This is who he is. Be prepared to average 20 points per game with him no matter the personnel. Washington will show us Monday night how a modern offense should do Michigan. It was hard to watch Michigan be more creative on offense than we were.

Offense is fine. Its limited as far as what we can run due to the strengths and weaknesses of our QB and OL.

They went from Tyler Buchner to Sam Hartman.

They dont trust him to throw slants without turning the ball over.

The offense second half of the year was top 5 in efficiency offense. If Milroe and the OL improves we will be top 5 next year as well and in contention for a championship.

There is no doubt there’s a lack of creativity. Ultimately the offense is on the OC and our offense has been pretty average to bad from a Bama standpoint. Look at our national stats. It’s a miracle we won 12 games.

Now the players have to be blamed as well along with the QB but like I said with Wiggins…I’m an end result type of guy. The offense hasn’t been good enough. That has to fall at the feet of Rees.

How many 27-24 type games did we play this year? We were bound to lose one. Our offense did not produce enough.

Now that doesn’t mean Rees/Milroe combo can’t succeed next year with hard work and adjustments but based on 2023 alone we weren’t close to good enough. Gave up around 50 sacks ffs. Inconsistent passing game. Pass protection was a cluster f***.

Watching Texas reminds me what creative play calling looks like. Sark is a master play caller. Now things are easier with the O line we had in 2020 along with our star QB, RB and WR but regardless Sark was in charge of that offense and it ran like a machine. The OC is in charge at the end of the day.

Lane Kiffin would have our roster scoring 40+ per game. Hes already proven what he can do with Bama talent. Hell, hes damn near doing it with ole miss talent.

Seems to work well with pre-snap motion and a QB who can make short and intermediate passes? And an OL that can execute. Maybe some “dual threat” TEs on the roster. What parts was Alabama missing in that equation?

You said “90% of the time” too, so there’s that. But that 12 personnel sure seems to give modern NFL defenses fits. College level defenses as well.

If anything it's our defense that is outdated. A young built on the fly during the season with 1st time starters all over it, yes, that's our offense.

I felt it was used a fair amount in the Michigan game. But that won't matter if your center can't snap the ball properly. It also won't offset your OL being pushed around or whiffing on blocks.

That loss was a complete display of all the flaws in this team's offense. You can't have those issues this late in the year AND have a 1st year starting QB that is a limited passer. Most of the throws I saw were safe and to the outside or 50/50 deep balls. Imagine trying to call a game that protects your QB from taking too many risks only to see snaps sent back below his knees or to his side. Rees may be terrible, time will tell. But I sure as hell don't envy him for what he dealt with this season.

Rees deserves criticism, so I’m not arguing against that, but this statement is just not true. JM has a tendency to throw high and late with anything over the middle. He also isn’t great at recognizing coverages. Those are recipes for turnovers. It is why we have been a throw deep or to the edges team.

No he didn't. I swear some of you are just completely making stuff up to support your argument.

Major. Applewhite. He's Major Applewhite. With play calling you either have it or you don't. Applewhite is the OC at South Alabama 16 years later. Rees will be the same.

Go back and watch 2007 Bama to 2008 Bama. It wasn't just the OL improving.

He's basically using the offense he learned when he was QB at Notre Dame, which Bama obliterated in the national championship game ironically.

He's the new Golding. I really don't know what Saban was thinking.

You don’t know how many times it was called that Milroe got a snap at his shoe tops and couldn’t do it.
