The SEC is down b/c of coaching and player development

I know some of you will say it's only one season. But, in reality the SEC has been down (save UGA) for 3-4 seasons now. And, I've been saying the reason is not bad QB play. Rather, bad QB is a symptom of my theory which is that coaching and player development is bad in the SEC. As good as Kirby and staff recruits they seem to make their guys better once they get them on campus. I think Kiffin and Drink do great things with less than many of their colleagues. I think Brian Kelly has slowly made LSU into a program that is a tier behind Ole Miss. And, I think Saban has always been as good as his assistants are and he can't seem to make the great assistant hires like he could in the past.
Contrast this to Harbaugh. We know Harbaugh can coach his butt off. Harbaugh won at the University of San Diego, Stanford, the 49ers, and now at Michigan. His current team only has 2-5 star players. Yet, his players are as big as any SEC team and this season Harbaugh would have the most physical team in the SEC. This Michigan team would have won the SEC this season. And, the biggest advantage that Harbaugh has is he and the Ravens seem to be running an assistant coach farm system.

ehhh
Kiffin has ole miss at a good place
Heupel has UT beating Iowa easily
LSU finished the year well
UGA/Bama/ are solid.
id argue we still have 5-7 really good teams in this league.

Disagree. The transfer portal and NIL are leveling the playing field. The years of SEC teams stockpiling talent are over.

Michigan isn't a big NIL player. Of course they are loaded with money but they don't even give much if any NIL money to freshman.

I’ve always been of the opinion that coaching in the SEC has been subpar for over a decade. Bailed out by superior depth in trench athletes.

No NIL money?? They are stealing signs. But they aren’t paying players? Doesn’t sound right.

I wouldn’t overreact to one year. Or, even two. But, the days of guaranteeing $ have to end. SEC has lost its competitive edge.
What’s the point of celebrating 5*’s or landing a new coach if they’re going to be fat, lazy & unmotivated? The league as a whole looks softer than usual.

What you aren't considering is the amount of players trying to leave their SEC teams after 3 years versus guys going to other programs expecting to be there for 4-5 years. Also a lot more cutthroat at an SEC school. I don't have numbers but I bet turnover is higher. What this means is amount of talent at any given time will be higher in the SEC, but it might be less experienced and less developed than in other programs.

Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Mizzou had move the needle type bowl wins.
You can’t say SEC is down when Mizzou beats Ohio State, Ole Miss beats Penn State, and Tennessee destroys Iowa and puts up 35 on their elite defense.
If SEC is down, who’s up? Pac12 seemed to have their best year ever, but Miss State beat their 3rd best team.

Lol wut?
Kelly is 20-7 over the past two seasons, Kiffin is 19-7.
LSU beat Ole Miss by 25 last year at home and lost this year by 6 on the road.
At worst, they're equal.

It’s a 2 way street. Kid doesn’t see the field immediately he’s in the portal making 2-3 stops in 5 years and never sits still long enough to develop into a good player in that system or style.
Kiffin takes a lot of portal kids and develops them into great players too so development is still happening. It just depends on the staff. Coaches know they have to win now and a lot of them don’t have the luxury of 3-4 year “project” recruits. If you can’t help me win today I’m not interested.

Ole Miss and Mizzou have coaching. Everywhere else is severely lacking

Equal my arse. LSU is weaker under Kelly. Simply put, you guys aren't getting the same quality of player as you should be getting. Your entire defensive staff looks like trash to me. Of course your secondary is terrible. But, your DL and LBers are shitty as units. You let a bad Wisconsin offense run up and down the field on you and you were terrible defensively all season.
And, the way Kiffin is recruiting in the portal and the way they dog walked a top 5 Penn State defense that is loaded with future NFL guys seems to say to me that Ole Miss has more "juice" or programmatic momentum at this time than what LSU has.

When you steal signs weeks ahead of your games for 3 years it’s easy to rack up wins.

Bro, you don't know how many times I've said here that outside of Kiffin, Drink, and Kirby the rest of the SEC head coaches and staffs leave a lot to be desired.

That's weak. But, what wasn't weak is Michigan physically dominated Bama. They turned Bama into their bottom bitch.

I’m excited that A&M hired a real coach. Now, if he could only recruit decently

Well if there’s and SEC team that would take Ryan Day, he’ll be available in less than a year. So there’s that

Jayden Daniels has done a lot to mitigate those issues. Will be interesting to see if they get fixed or if Nuss (who is solid but no JD) will be able to counterbalance those issues and continue getting wins with the new SEC schedule.
