We can all agree this is about making money and TV rights.

Expanding the playoffs was not about fairness. It is about eye balls on TVs.

Same as the NFL. Contracts, NIL, unions and roster slots are all on the table for conversation.

I really believe things are going on in the background right now and this will become a reality in the next two years.

Scenario 1- There is a salary cap and players become employees. All scholarship structures are out the window. NIL runs wild. This is the current state but with more guard rails.

Scenario 2- the top 30 teams break off and form its own super league. This was recently discussed by the NCAA president.

Why, exactly, do you say in the next two years? (Honest question.)

Not employees, independent contractors.

I agree that it is going to/needs to happen but I think we will see some interesting things.

One of the things that intrigues me is what will happen to solid college players who are good enough to start for a SEC school but not 53-man-roster material? Austin Deculus is the type of player I am thinking of. How much connection do they need to a school to play at the “collegiate” level when they are independent contractors? Do they only get 4 years of eligibility even if their role on the team has nothing to do with academics? Could they play for a college team until they get cut?

Who's not making the cut because you chose BYU and BC to round out 31 and 32?

Iowa, for one. I know everyone loves laughing at their offense, but football is a BIG deal there.

Miami hasn't been relevant since the 90's and no fans show up to their games and the state already has FSU and UF on the list, does one state need three teams in this model? Perhaps a giant state like CA or TX, but not Florida. Plus, Miami already has an NFL team that their own fans don't give a shite about. I'd cut Miami loose.

This is really all Aggy's fault. With their constant need to fit in, their lack of moral character in choosing envy, wnd their greed for just one national championship has brought us to this point.

Aggy is why we can't have nice things

Its already a farce...but at that point why even make it related to the school. Why have eligibility requirements? Why would players have to "play school" just treat the football team like a highly paid school mascot. You dont have to leave after 4 years, you can just keep playing. Its a bit depressing to think about

Let me ask it like this: does anyone in this thread enjoy CFB as much as they did 10 years ago?

This is a good question. Could really amplify it and say 20 or 30 years ago. The highs are great. Cant say I didnt love the Auburn game ending...but it would have meant something entirely different to me years ago.

Should be like Major League Baseball and the NFL should have farm teams for those that don’t want to go or are too stupid to go to college! Which is about 90% of them at this time. Then we can get back to real college football with student athletes.

Google NCAA - congress - NIL- NCAA president pay for play.

Any combination. Things are really picking up behind the scenes. I like how Sankey is playing coy.

But this shite is about to go down.

When the entire structure collapses in the next 15 years, the do-gooders and race baiters who clamored for NIL/pay for play will just shrug and move on to their next crusade of destruction.

Thank god.

It will be interesting to see how rosters are managed.

What’s the difference between players being 1099 contractors for hire like it is right now & them becoming w-2’s? At least then they could be signed to multi-year deals instead of having to rerecruit the whole roster every offseason

They will also be subject to limitations on what they can do in NIL space. Most employment contracts limit what types of outside employment an employee can participate in ESPECIALLY as part of their connection to their employer. They’d be subject to salary caps, when and possibly where they transfer and they could be liable for any action that damages their employer and could be liable for money that they haven’t earned but have received.

The idea of a super league, 4 conferences, 48 teams or so, is also coming. Schools like Vandy and Ga Tech are not going to be part of that. They may still play teams in the super league but they’ll be rent a wins at best. A TV contract for the TOP programs in the SEC, Big10, Big 12, ACC and PAC 12 would be MASSIVE. Those programs left behind would have TV contracts worth far less but the product would be compelling because there’d be Vandy / Ga Tech games instead of UGA / Vandy games, for example. Those programs can operate as they always have…possibly doing what everyone is doing now, who knows…. But they’re not going to keep pace with Texas, why would they be in the same league?

They’re would still be some severely underperforming programs in a super league. It’s still gonna be the same programs most years. Salary caps won’t mean a thing about coaches and staff and facilities. Money will still matter just like it does in ALL pro leagues.

The cat is out of the bag and ain’t going back in. The idea tha teams like Rutgers and Ohio State are in the same conference is idiotic. Alabama and Vandy ain’t similar and never will be. It’s coming and it will be pretty compelling compared to rent a wins 4-5 times a year. It will also mean there is some substance to the playoffs and not just a beauty contest. CFB will be better than ever and far better than it is currently.

The title IX litigation is going to be a sight to see LOL. When white female athletes riding horses are told black male athletes are no longer paying the freight there is going to a squalling the likes have never been heard. When women basketball players demand equal pay like the WNBA has done for a while there is going to be some seriously uncomfortable conversations in the hallows halls of academia across the land

Miami probably ain’t in. They don’t have the support to keep up or add anything to a super league. There are going to be a BUNCH of hurt feelings when everyone faces reality. There will be some programs that won’t play the game and will choose to be out. There may some day be some kind of relegation….it works in other sports leagues.
