Didn't he turn the BAMA job down because his wife did not want to live in Alabama before BAMA hired Saban?

Now she lives in Alabama without the BAMA payday to show for it. Kinda funny.

I didn't know this. She's still a hero in my book.

Every Bama fan owes Rita for that. I also remember
Some of the Finebaum show. People were making fun of her looks and comparing to her Destiny from the Mike Price scandal.

Thank you Rita.

The University should erect a statue of her for all that she did for the University.
We are forever indebted to her

That was a rumor. Lars Anderson broke that down a few weeks ago. Rodriguez simply wanted to stay at West Virginia who promised to make the changes he thought necessary to be a competitive program. If you recall WV was actually a good program and he had that entire team returning the next yr. He thought he could win a national title there with the next years team.

Yep, Bill Burgess. Led JSU to a D-II national title in 1992.

Also the father of Rick from the Rick and Bubba Show.

I think he turned down the Alabama job for the reason stated and took the Michigan job. He never recovered from that last game to the season lost to Pitt. West Virginia was on the way to being number 1 except for that lost.

I have a WVU buddy that refers to her as “Rhinestone Rita.” Very fitting nickname.

They had the pre-season #3 team in the country in 07 and returned their entire team.

They are probably why LSU won the 2007 Natty actually. They were #2 in the country, and had a terrible Pittsburgh team at home, and lost. Or they would have played Ohio St. in the Sugar Bowl.

But anyways, them returning a powerhouse team in 2007 almost certainly played into him staying as well.

The way I remember it was the search committee wanted a coach right now. Mal M had been in touch with Jimmy Sexton and was told that there was a good chance Saban would be available after the season at the Dolphins was completed.
The committee didn’t want to wait and told Mal to go to Florida and bring Rich Rod to Tuscaloosa as the next Bama coach. RR told Mal he had to return to Wv to tell his team bye. Mals thought if he went to WV he would stay there.
He was correct. The school gave him a raise and promised improvements in the program. But the “Real “reason he didn’t come was Rita and the pissing contest she had with F-Bomb.
Thank you Paul.
