Is it better to be a transfer destination or a 4/5 star high school recruit destination?

With the fluidity of college players now if you had to pick you'd probably want transfers with college experience and film.

Both. Transfers to fill the holes that your lacking from your 4 and 5*s

Currently you need a mix of both.
In the future, I’m thinking transfers (aka free agency) will become increasingly more important.

Because all jobs aren’t equal.

I agree. I saw on twitter an FCS coach who uses the recruiting pitch that he can get you ready to be a FBS transfer pickup.

Why not both?
This is ideal. Bring in good hs talent and redshirt them if they’re not ready and hopefully they’ll hang around long enough to contribute. Fill the void with transfers. This used to be done with juco players when the jucos were basically farm systems for college schools.
The big change is transfers don’t have to sit out and the portal is full of experienced players, it would be foolish to put all eggs in the hs players basket.
Plus most schools aren’t going to keep a coach long enough for players to mature anymore.

I say you are in the running for the least intelligent alter. But there is a staggering amount of competition for that title. Good luck though.

QB/WR- Transfer (too many QB busts & WR prima donnas)
OL- 4/5 Star (need to develop/continuity)
DT- 4/5 star (same)
LB- 4/5 star (same)
Edge- Transfer (production at lower levels usually translates at a higher level than HS film)
RB/TE/CB/S- either

I really like that breakdown.

High school recruit.
We’ll still see the Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio St’s win mostly with players they recruited out of high school.
Might have a QB or skill player transfer in and contribute, but the bulk of the team will be the 4/5 star athletes that signed initially with them.

The schools who consistently sign top 5 classes in the trenches are going to continue to separate themselves as championship caliber programs. Georgia’s class this year is a great example of how you want to prioritize HS recruiting in this new era.

Remember when you said Alabama would never win anything with Milroe? And Saban was a shitty coach? And Rees should be fired during halftime of a game?
I do. Those were fun times.

I think offensive players are mostly a dime a dozen except for the rare ones Bama always seems to find at WR. Lineman and Linebackers are way more important to have 4/5 star players develop. That skill set is so much more rare from an impactful perspective imo. WR and RB are mostly a dime and dozen. You see so many good NFL caliber QBs lose 2-3 games in college too. Even they can’t out play a shitty defense.

A lot of 4* & 5* recruits end up at choice schools, and don’t live up to the promise, which is better for the recruits.
Transfers that don’t have skins on the wall don’t get a sniff of the choice destinations, which is better for the schools.
