Yes, LSU went down. Two national championships and was in another since Saban. Saban could not beat LSU and Dinardo in the mighty Independence bowl while he coached Michigan state . LSU saw potential in Saban and Saban saw potential in LSU!!

Lots of people were favorable to promoting him in 2021 before he left. He got some in the job training and now he’s back. It could have been a much worse outcome.

It's a strange decision to say the least. He's not even mediocre in a good conference. He's mediocre in a sub par conference.

I don't like Fisher as a coach or a human. I don't believe he will be coaching at a big-time school for a long time.

Appreciate the quality post. I hope Elko is a solid hire. He seems very capable, and has had success everywhere he's been, including here. Hopefully that keeps up.

It's Duke. They were 1-17 in ACC play in the two seasons before Elko took over.

Oh I understand about the duke angle. I hope he works out for you all. I don't think it will. If they had a better record this year than his first I'd be more optimistic.
In 3-4 it's gonna be like sleepy sherm. "Man, coach elko was a good dude, the best. But we have more money than god. Somebody buy us a winner. We aren't a 8-4 program."

Maybe. That's college football. Outside of Saban and Smart there is no such thing as a sure thing. Everyone else rides the carousel, and hopes to strike gold. Is what it is.

I find this extremely hard to believe. Apparently, as the Athletic Director, he believed that part of his job description was to identify and hire the next head coach of the football program. Big money stepped in and told him what to do. Spin it any way you want but that's what happened, and that should be concerning to A&M fans.

The last time a coach left Duke to go to the SEC, he had a worse record there after 2 years than Elko did.

From the outside, I think Bjork extending Fisher, the buyout for Fisher's firing coming from the Athletic department budget rather than boosters, the Stoops fiasco AND the Elko hire all point to one thing: the boosters run the show in College Station.
Any rational program would've sent Bjork packing along with Fisher, if not last year after the 5-7 finish. The only sensible reason he is being retained is that he does what the boosters want - to the tune of raiding his own department's coffers, no less. I'm not an Aggie hater, but come on...y'all have to be able to see this for what it is, right? This - these events and decisions - this is your program, in a nutshell.

I hope more details will eventually come out, because I think we’re due an explanation, and Bjork has some major explaining to do re: how poorly this was handled. It was unacceptable.
It’s been referenced by multiple sources that he apparently wasn’t entirely upfront with his information to the higher ups throughout the process — to what degree we don’t know, which is why he needs to answer some difficult questions. The accusation is that he did some bait and switch action, prompting the late night meeting with the big guns at 9:30 on Sat night.
Regardless, it was a clusterfrick. He lacks the professionalism required for his job. Yeah, I know we were warned, Ole Miss fans. ;)

Which is a bullshite cop out because he can't make a single decision on a final coaching move without the board's approval.

Both my assessment and yours point to the same bottom line. Bjork has failed.
Part of the ADs job is to get admin, donors, etc. On the same page. If he can't do that, then is a dead man walking.
I'd be more concerned if we had warring factions of donors that made the ADs job impossible. But by all accounts that's not what we have. The donors, university admin, and fans were all pretty much in lockstep in wanting Elko, or at least being ok with Elko. And Bjork ignored it all, and tried to force his own personal preference in a public manner, without even trying to get other stakeholders on board. That's primarily an AD failure IMO.
