I'd be fine with it. Either:
A) He comes in, succeeds, and fences are mended.
B) He comes in, fails, Sam is canned, and I don't have to hear Razorback fans clamoring for Petrino to come back ever again.

Would be the perfect hire. It would excite the fanbase and we either do well or they both get canned and we never have to hear about how Bobby Petrino will bring us back again.

What if Sam asked Bobby to come in and bring back his old Style offense? That system is not out of date. Just a simple feed the studs offense. Jacoby can likely run that offense just need an offensive line and a few good tight ends and receivers. We have the backs to run it already.
