These games will be fun and probably sell tickets, but other than that we are setting ourselves up. (Especially since there’s a good chance that Coach Saban won’t be here for some of these)

I know we go to a 12 team playoff next year but considering the strength of the SEC schedule, there's no value for scheduling like this. We would have been better off scheduling UAB this year instead of Texas.

2024: at Wisconsin
2025: Wisconsin, at Florida State
2026: at West Virginia, Florida State
2027: West Virginia, at Ohio State
2028: Ohio State, at Oklahoma State
2029: at Notre Dame, Oklahoma State
2030: Notre Dame

I agree that in a 12-team scenario doing anything but stacking wins is foolish if you’re trying to make the playoffs.

Look at next year:
Auburn
Georgia
Missouri
@LSU
@Tennessee
@Oaklahoma

That’s just conference. Luckily Wisconsin doesn’t appear too strong right now and probably won’t be great next year. But in the future when you’re adding Ohio State, Florida State, etc., you’re asking for trouble.

Definitely seems like a bad idea purely from a “make the playoff” perspective. But frick it, it’s fun to play big games. Can you imagine how boring half the football season would be if we scheduled like Michigan every year? Or Georgia this year?

And who knows maybe one of those years a big ooc win will be the thing that saves us if we slip up a couple times in conference. Like it may do for Texas this year. Seems like the risk/reward says it’s not worth it (as it is killing us this year) but it can cut both ways.

Agreed as a season ticket holder I much prefer the big home and home scheduling. Playoffs be damned. This year unfortunately has just had very few upsets. TCU lucked out multiple times last year and this year 3-4 teams have escaped multiple weeks.

We need to cancel any meaningful game and only schedule bottom dwellers in weak conferences.

After all they give Georgia, Michigan and Oregon non-stop praise for doing that so why even take the chance

I want those big OOC games...but they should really factor in the schedule more than they currently do.

I still don't care for the committee and wish they'd just use the old BCS formula to pick the 12 teams (shouldn't have been more than 8, but that ship has sailed).

I would much rather play meaningful games and would like to see the NCAA force all teams to schedule 2 P5 games games and only one cupcake.

It also works both ways. Those teams will be kicking themselves when it comes to playing us if their focus is going to the playoffs.

I don't understand this thinking at all.

These games are now even more survivable to lose if we take care of business in the SEC with a 12 team playoff. Hell, we could probably absorb another high ranked conference loss, make the SEC title game and still enter the playoffs.

Because the committee has said all that matters is W-L record not SOS. Therefore there is no value in scheduling tough non-conference games when you already have a very difficult, physical SEC schedule. It can only hurt you (see this year currently unfolding as an example).

Why the hell would anyone think that a tough regular season game would be more fun to watch ‘cause I’m a season ticket holder’ than any playoff game(s) that we would play in. Give me the playoff games over better regular season games any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I simply don't care about watching games like last week. Three cupcakes and an off week would equal a full month of basically no football. I guess I'm just not scared of competition to the point that I want to watch crap games. If we can't beat enough of these teams during the season to be top 12, we're not going to beat them in a playoff.

Ultimately there need to be parity in scheduling. Either all play tough games or nobody does. The problem also is that not all conferences are created equal. What’s going to get us the closest thing to schedule parity is an nfl style set up where we determine the top 32 teams and set up a premier league to play big boy football.

Consumer/Fan value. I don’t want to see any power 5 school play a non-power 5 school.

Really? It’s not complicated. Strength of schedule doesn’t appear to be valued very much. Why risk a loss when you can guarantee a win? That’s pretty easy to follow. I understand if you disagree for whatever reason but the logic is sound.

Unfortunately, this is correct.
Just look at Alabama this season. Assuming all games' results are the same ( big assumption, IMO) except we played Texas State instead of Texas.
Honestly, where do you think Alabama would be ranked?

No worse than 4th or 5th. Probably higher.

I plan on going to both of those as well as Wisconsin next year, Ohio State, and WVU for the games. I like going to venues I have not seen us play at.
