Schumann is better in the week leading up to and at half time of the game.
But you aren't hiring a DC.
Schumann doesn't like interviews.
Schumann isn't energetic and passionate like Lanning/Kirby.
You are taking the gamble that your CEO doesn't need to worry much about being a CEO and can focus on football.
Yes, deal me in.

All he knows is what Saban & Kirby do. That's about as good of a pedigree as anyone can get.
Thia approach has produced average to below average results more often than not. Kirby is the exception.

You could certainly do worse than him.

The more recent group that have taken what they learned and also put their own stamp on it have been pretty successful: Kirby, Lane, Sark, Lanning.

Schumann also learned from Saban and Kirby that you need total control over the program, staffing, recruiting budget, etc.
You think Bjerk will agree to that? I saw a guy who would be an epic PITA to work for.

I hope so. I have no faith in the money to make that hire. Schumann and ERob are my top two. Followed by DeBoer (who isn’t coming), Norvell (also not coming), and Sumrall.
I also like Fisch, but he is the next coach at FL

Then why would you not offer Dan Lanning?
Buyout and he's already said he's not interested.

16 years. 11 since being a position coach (at non D2).
Schumann started early. He's got 15 years of experience. 7 since being a position coach.
Kirby waited until he found a position that had all the support, players, and infrastructure to win big. Sound familiar?

The dream job opened up and Kirby went home.
That's what "sounds familiar"

Kirby's coaching tree has sprung

true.
Before we snagged him he was apparently pretty serious in talks wiht SC, but that's a program that has historically been shite so expectations woudl be very low to go along with incredible fan support, which is a bit rare. At ATM expectations are going to be sky high, not to mention its' a different world these days and he'd have to face bama/lsu/texas/oklahoma regularly. Not necessarily the easiest gig for a first time HC

No Mel Tucker?
Jim McElain?
(Ironically no mention that Jimbo is from this tree)
Will Muschamp
Jeremy Pruitt
Derek Dooley
Butch Jones
Billy Napier
Mario Cristobal
Mike Locksley
Major Applewhite
Geoff Collins
Charles Huff

Very informative post, thanks.
I personally have reservations about overall lack of experience.
So while Schumann May be a badass, I would favor someone who had led a program before or at least been in authority for several years.
Running a program is a much different set of responsibilities.

I mean, you want people to want your coach. It means you have had some success. Maybe he leaves, maybe he doesn't. The worst thing is when no one comes after your coach.

Recent group
Of those names I'd only really include Huff, Locksley and Tucker. Pruitt too I guess but his failure wasn't due to how he implemented things he just wasn't even close to ready or able to run a major college program.
Huff and Locks have done solid jobs. Not elite but good. Tucker was kind of a disaster all around outside of 2021.

Copy cat league. Never fails. These million dollar ADs are clueless. "Lanning worked out for Oregon so let's go get Schumann!"...
Oregon plays in a shite league. TAMU plays in the West. Good luck.
I know Kirby and Lanning were never HC's before but it's still a gigantic risk.

Lane and Sark have had good season this year, but their overall body of work is average at best. Lanning looks promising but it's too early to say whether he will sustain it or be a flash in the pan.
Schumann might make a great HC. I don't know enough about the guy to offer an opinion. But simply hiring someone because they coached under Saban or Kirby and expecting the same results is short sighted.
