not given a fair shot but I think he knew it was a 1 year deal going in.

Wonder if Pittman is next?

Rhett and Gus both have better jobs than Arky and Moos State.

No kidding. What did state expect when they signed a Tubershell to replace Leach in year one

I can't believe they didn't at least hire a Leech disciple there. Talk about a 180 in philosophy....

As someone who is a Troy fan I really hope they don’t but Sumrall has got to be on the short list of up and coming coaches in the G5. What he has done the last 2 years is awesome. I know we won’t have him longer than next year at best

That is why I feel Arnett was pretty screwed and thrown to the wolves as a sacrifical lamb. They should have just done the interim route and spared Arnett a firing.

Arnett was a pretty uninspiring HC but he didnt deserve that.

Why he wouldn't find an OC that ran a similar offense as Pirate is beyond me.

Arnett wasn’t ready for the job. May not every be a big time head coach because of personality but is a fine DC and make a great living.

It doesn't take you to be ready to realize your players are best suited for a certain offense and not to go completely the other direction. He basically neutered Rogers who was pretty productive in Pirates offense.

Someone mentioned calling air-raid until current players left but i dont know that that makes sense to me. You would have to recruit pro-style and all.

Most defensive head coaches aren’t into running air raid offenses. Why should Arnett be asked to go against his philosophy. You hire a guy and let him coach how he wants. 1 year isn’t reasonable at all. I know the circumstances were a little different for his hiring but maybe they should have just stuck an interim tag on him.

I am not coming from the angle of he can't do what he wants corch. I am saying if he was being smart about it he would have gotten an OC that ran similarly to pirate's, especially when you had no time but to hold the class available for recruiting.

My point being is do what you need to win games and then gradually put in place the offense you want. The fact he was fired before the season is over suggests my take is correct.

They had to have known. Wanted to keep 2023 recruiting together.

I would bet it has a lot less to do with offensive philosophy other than just figuring out he wasn’t ready for the big time.

It is highly possible they gave him a multi year to hold onto the class of 23 and not just give him the interim tag publicly or a one year contract.

I think that is a plausible scenario, but would also be a dumb move since Arnett and crew have been recruiting all year to his new direction.

At the end of the day it is MSU and not something I give much thought to.

If they want to build a program they should go after Curt Cignetti. Done nothing but build & win.
