There is clearly a distinct gap between Kiffin’s Ole Miss and Arnett’s State. But it wasn’t even a year ago that State won in Oxford and finished with the better record of the two programs. Let’s not pretend a new coach at State has some insurmountable mountain to climb to catch up with OM.
The pendulum in this rivalry swings the opposite direction frequently. Both sides have caught the good and bad of that.

Arnett deserves more time. At the beginning of this season most State fans predicted 8-10 wins, where’s the optimism ?

Lance Leipold and Mike Elko should be your top targets!
Kansas State HC is the better choice.

Why not at Ole Miss?

He is currrntly 5-3 at Texas State. He had one good season at incarnate word.
34 years old. Seems a risky hire, not a lot of experience and no recruiting connections.
I’d go after Leipold or Elko first. Throw some money after them. We could double Elko’s 3.5 million salary
How did Drinkwitz doing right now? He sure did get a HC gig at Missouri with only 1 year of HC experience at Appalachian State.

Leipold and Elko fit this mold. I’m worried our fans are falling back into the old MSU mindset of we can’t get a proven HC. Mullen and Leach proved we can get a good coach and keep him several years. Open the wallets up and throw some money at a proven guy
Got to have good NIL support to attract top talents to go to MSU.

a short list is easy to start...start with a coach making less money, doing more with less talent and putting up points and you got a great starting point.
Who is on this list?
Mike Denbrock.

Ole Miss is a better program than state by every measurable metric and the gap is getting wider. No one gives a frick what state did with Jackie Sherrill and Dan Mullen in 2023.
We don't have to go back to Mullen to be better than OM. We only have to go back to...last year.
Every time OM has a good season their fans think their program is on UGA's and Bama's level.

Apathy is the reason.
It’s just been one gut punch after another. That makes it hard to commit more money. That’s again one of the reasons this new hire needs to spark some interest.
I’m again assuming the leadership is not so incompetent as to allow another year.
Doesn’t make it any easier with the current AD being absolutely silent. I haven’t heard a single thing outside of Starkville from the guy since he was hired.
One Texas A&M fan said he wouldn't be surprised if Texas A&M loses to State. That might be the one thing State needs to get the sparks going for the team and fans. Then give him another year due to lack of time to fix the issues. I think this will be the best thing to do since there isn't a whole lot of choices to make the changes and find coaches in most position to replace current coaches that may leave or be fired. Give him another year and like someone said most of the key players will be gone. That is going to be hard to find some HCs that will be willing to take a huge risk to get the players to compete just enough to make it to a bowl game.

People are overlooking what Fritz has done at Tulane.
This. What he has built is impressive. I don't think he leaves though to go to a pressure cooker at this point in his career. He turned down Georgia Tech last year and said he wanted to retire at Tulane. He is older and is compensated very well to live in New Orleans and have low expectations.

Forgot you guys measure your program based on the egg bowl outcome.
Nationally Ole Miss has been a better program since Kiffin got to Oxford and it’s not even close. State doesn’t return a single player that I would want to play for ole miss.

Negative. He hasn’t came close to flashing any signs of being a competent head coach. None. Horrible in every metric. Dead last in recruiting and not even putting forth decent effort at it.
How he beat Arizona is a damn mystery to me. It came back to earth when Western Michigan’s 3rd string quarterback looked like Steve Young against us.
And you folks that missed out on paying off your mortgage with KY (-5) last week… I’m sorry you missed it.

So you lose to us but your program is better than ours? Very interesting logic..

Go get Rich Rodrigue and don`t look back.

We beat them AND had a better record, higher ranking, finished ahead of them in the conference standings, etc.

It will be 3 out of 4 in 2 weeks.
That’s a 75% winning percentage under Kiffin.
For reference your greatest coach in program history, Jackie Sherrill had a 53% win percentage against Ole Miss.
Not to mention Ole Miss has been a top 10 team three years in a row.
And will sign 6 of the top 10 players in Mississippi while State will sign 1.
Congrats on your fluke 2 point win!

Your dawg shite THIS SEASON. And it’s getting worse. You poors can’t compete in the NIL era. You’re losing because your players suck. Seriously who do you think state could hire that would compete for SEC titles?

This is the problem. Without a war chest to recruit, the coach doesn't matter. You can't get talent to compete.
Hammer, meet Nail. A hurdle for Arkansas as well.
