Stallions makes $55,000 per year, according to the University of Michigan's website. But the operation included thousands of dollars in ticket sales and the cost of travel to the stadiums.

they make it sound like there aren't hundreds and hundreds of thousands of John Does out there in America that make similar money that go to a few games a year of their favorite team.

why not shove a flexible led display in these sleeves that QBs wear? play is transmitted via encrypted signal to the QB from the sideline.

Or ya know...just put radios into the helmets that call the play in. It's been in the NFL for decades.

Also can we get rid of the idiots with the chains. It's time for a laser in the football to show forward progress too

So the question is will they get a bowl ban before bowl season? Why let them steal a playoff spot if you have enough evidence now, only to vacate later? That rips off another team.

But you can imagine TV execs tellimg ncaa to hold off with their big TV game comimg up. Imagine the audience decline if Michigan is already barred from playoffs.

Doing it way later means nothing. But only do it now if you have enough solid evidence. Can decide future sanctions when all is investigated but bowl ban now of you have the goods and its ironclad.

Hopefully the committee considers this. Along with their joke schedule

I think we all know that nothing is going to happen during the season, and certainly nothing that would effect Michigan's post-season (bowl ban, forfeit a game, etc). The only thing that could happen during the season would be suspensions of coaches or something.

You keep posting it's a televised game for everyone to see like the broadcast shows the hand signals used to send in every play.

I agree the act itself is not that big a deal. The brazenness to have a University employee break a clear NCAA rule and do it so blatantly is a pretty big deal.

That's fair

Cheating started 3 years ago. Also keep in mind they likely didn’t have the same cheating vs TCU last year since out of conference and got beat. Look at conf games in this graph.

It is not illegal for someone to shoot phone video from their seat in a football game. Again, its not the act of cheating that is in question (obviously they did if the allegations are true), its why should this even be a rule as it is virtually unenforceable if you aren't a coaching staff of complete morons.

Just make the act legal and teams will adjust. For a century, coaches sent in the play verbally thru player substitution. This has only been a thing since the no huddle offense came about and coaches thought it was neato to have Kinkos make really large posters with pop culture graphics.

I suppose I would have to see something a little more severe than the guy going to the games and watching the other sideline for signals. I read up on the rule and they seemed to have originally put in place as a cost measure so that travel budgets for coaches didn't blow up. I can't imagine some random coach watching from the sidelines is going to get much more than your available game tape will get you.

However the guy seems like he is some wannabe black ops secret agent that probably used recording equipment. Might be my imagination but I would not be the least surprised if the guy has some excellent video on his computers and has made some research into AI regarding pattern recognition or something of the sort

The fact that he works for the University and seems to have a pretty specific system in place (location of seats, recording equipment, games picked) suggests to me that they probably do more than just grab the video and check it out for any signals that just jump out.

They have all the opponent film cut up and organized already. Now they just add in various signals to tag to those formations and you've got a pretty good library of usable information.

It's not illegal for a coaching staff to do it either, but it is against the rules and they all know it. I know the SoEveryoneCheats league is pretty flippant about rules, but most staffs try to operate within the rules and operate with some level integrity.

I was unaware they caught him with recording equipment. Not too bright then.

Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s happening across the sport. Venables defensive personnel was calling our plays consistently in the cotton bowl in the first half. That or they just prepared for Texas all off-season.

I bet he even wore a Michigan shirt while doing this. I mean he could have at least tried to be sneaky about it

You don’t think there is a big difference between scouting play on the field and scouting sign language on a sideline?

This apparently took a fair amount of planning and way more than just a little dedicated time to decipher.

And the data would have to be stored somewhere and perhaps even AI was involved.

If found to be true, there was a premeditated intent to cheat.

Who paid for all those tickets?

Not only that, but are we to believe he went to 30 games, filmed their sideline and the coaches never saw the film and used it? He just kept going there and filming on his own?
