I wouldnt say he was an elite defender. Herb Jones was an elite defender. Rylan is a solid defender, he was our best defensive guard this year but that’s not saying a lot.

He plays the same position as Chris Youngblood I think. Both are really really good, I think Youngblood is better so if we land him it’s no bid deal
He plays the same position as Reid, and Reid will probably be a better rebounder and defender, has more potential all the way around. This opens the door for Reid to start.

Reid, by what I've seen, seems to be one of the two missing pieces from our final four team: a wing that can play above the rim so we're not reliant on guards finishing over typical NCAA Plodder Centers that park their arse in front of the rim for 25-30 seconds and swat everything away.

Watched a youtube video about him and his financial stuff. He is frugal as can be

The guardrails are needed
NBA players are paid to play basketball.
So are college players.
The entire roster of every NBA team doesn't become free agents every year.
Why should college rosters?
The NCAA requiring all scholarships to be 3 year contracts would in no way violate a player's right to earn NIL.

Man I don’t see how you could say anyone on the team is an “elite defender”
They picked it up in the tourney but were not good basically entire year

Glad to hear he hasn’t changed.

Damn so got up this morning thinking I could read some Kentucky melts and find out Rylan is transferring.
College sports has gotten ridiculous. These guy are basically free agents at the end of each season. It’s just stupid. Already accepting the fact we will have basically a brand new team/roster next season.

Tim said the staff has known Rylan was leaving since the middle of the season.
I can’t hate on him he gave his all during this Finla 4 run. I don’t think I could ever hate anyone on this years team

Oh I don’t hate him. Wish him the best. He’s got a lot of talent. It just sucks. As a guy in his mid 40’s, I just hate what college athletics has turned into

Alabama quietly already landed Mallette transfer from Pepperdine yesterday evening, surprised that hasn't been mentioned

It was mentioned. On March 18th when it happened.

Haha, my bad, I didn't realize that

In fairness it was pretty quiet. I think maybe because it’s not the splashiest get but a very solid pickup nonetheless.
Wonder if Griffen leaving does anything to our chances with Mcneely. Might mean more playing time, NIL, etc.

In the Griffen transfer story it mentioned that while Griffen was transferring but Alabama had received a commitment from Mallette. Thought that all went down last night. I went old school from Dumb and Dumber when Jim Carrey sees the framed newspaper clipping on the wall of landing on the moon and thinks it current information.

Not intentionally mind you, I thought it was current information ??

Requiring that would get the courts involved, again, and the NCAA would lose, again. For the same reasons the courts killed the sit out requirement even for second time transfers. They aren't going to let the NCAA do anything that potentially forces an athlete to remain at a school he or she no longer wants to be at.
The best they can do is create some kind of two tiered scholarship structure where what you are proposing here (mutually enforcable, multi-year contracts) is one option and the other is a scholarship that operates year to year with the option, but no obligation, to renew on the part of the school. So that way no one is being forced to do anything and they can opt into this annual free agency system if they want to, but there's a downside to it.
