We would need to hit the portal hard. Waking up today to realize we don’t have a true PG if Sears decides to leave. Wrightsell might be able to fill that role but not much depth after that

Depending on Sears and Nelson's decisions, next season's roster composition may change significantly.

That's modern basketball for everyone now.

We didnt have a true point guard with Sears to be honest. He and Estrada just kind of became the defacto point by committee.

There’s not a player on the roster that you can put down for sure will be back. Sadly, that’s just the state of college athletics.

Good news is that we will fill whatever spots we do have open with quality players. Oats was a great recruiter to start with, and after that run it should only get better. Now are we going to find another Sears in the portal if the leaves? Probably not. But I have zero worries about Oats getting quality players in here no matter who leaves

Agreed. This years team is a monster if not for the unexpected Bediako move that caught coaches by surprise. Lost 2 first round picks, 6th man of the year, Gurley, Bradley and Burnett and still went to final four.

Gottfried was there? Not gonna lie, that's actually pretty cool. Guess no hard feelings are there.

I’m sorry but NIL has absolutely ruined college sports

Yes, it has. Talked to a lower level college coach at the d1 level earlier this week. Said kids are more interested in making money than winning games/championships.

You are lucky if you can get a kid to stay more than one year at your program without transferring or looking at other options.

Bama could also sign a rim protector and ball handler from the portal.

If Alabama hit a few more open looks in the second half, they may have been watching from the house on Monday. I get him though, he’s got a mentality to motivate and uplift his guys.

Sears is gone imo. Dont see anyway he can improve his draft stock. Nelson is a toss up. Doubt he will ever be a first round pick but someone will tell him that he is. Spurs will take him in the early 2nd which may be enough for him. The one thing that has always hurt Bama basketball is guys leaving early when they were needed to make the next years team great smh.

The question on Sears is can he make more in NIL than a G League or Euro deal. I think he could come back.

Will any of this years team make an NBA roster next year. Not a g league roster but a true NBA team roster?

First, it needs to be noted that this is an extremely weak draft. I've heard NBA reporters say it's the worst one in the last 40 years, maybe ever. So teams are going to take more risks trying to find value.

That being said, imo, yes. I think Sears can be a top 40 pick for a team that needs a cheap backup PG who can give them some scoring pop off the bench.

Nelson though is perfect for the modern NBA. He's a 6'11 wing. He isn't a true center. He may even be a lottery pick in a draft this weak.

We need to be fine with losing them. Our only hope is paying them enough to rival a rookie deal for their projected slot.

Oats on Grant Nelson's future: "I'm sure his draft stock as risen in the tournament, particularly with how he played against Carolina. That game, followed up by this one, I guess we're going to have to sit down and evaluate how much it has risen. "I'd love to have him back, but I've always said you do what's right by the person."

This is why I think both Nelson and Sears end up leaving. Their stock is both up big time right now. Combine that with a weak draft and I mean if they want a shot at the NBA, this might be their chance. Sears especially. There’s nothing more he can prove. Nelson does need more work on his outside shot and could probably benefit from coming back, but at the end of the day I think he ends leaving.
