I recognize we don’t have Julio, AJ Greene, DJ Metcalf, etc, but when I watch other games even random no name guys seem to find space.

Also 50/50 balls are not 50/50 for our guys.

How much is on the coaches, and how much is on the players?

I like the TE group overall.

How do we get more production out of the WR group?

Fair looks decent at times, but we just never seem to have guys running free in green grass.

There is separation we just aren’t anticipating the throws. Thorn holds the ball too long. You’re right we don’t have world beaters at WR but DBs are at a disadvantage by design. Any D1 level wr can beat a good DB but the ball has to be there when he does. I know it must be frustrating for freeze to see this in film review I just can’t figure out why he hasn’t made a change. The season is obviously trashed so play someone else and see what happens

Even those leagues put WRs in the league.

Getting open is more than pure speed. Our guys just don’t seem to create separation or win 50/50 balls much.

Defense looks banged up for coming off a bye week. Playing freshmen at corner against talented guys is goi to be a learning curve

We got Marcus Davis and he was putting out the stud no-named WRs like crazy.

He can get the job done .

We’re lacking talent. That’s it. We’ve lacked talent for a while, not just this year.

But there’s more to the passing game than receivers knowing how to get open. There’s timing and rhythm between the QB throwing and the routes. That requires protection from the o line, which sets up the QB to make reads within the time frame of the route tree.

Our offense is all around bad right now. Ashford only provides a glimmer of hope because teams have to respect his legs. He’s a 20+ yard run threat at any moment, so IMO, he’s our only hope at opening up the offense.

It doesn't make sense. It has to be 100% coaching/scheme. Compare Vandys passing stats to auburn. They have 2100 and change. Auburn has 980. No one can convince me they are more talented anywhere on the field than auburn. I agree that we are lacking in talent but this is ridiculous. Lack of adjustments either to scheme or personnel is mind boggling

I dont know how it is possible but Vandy has played 8 games and we have only played 6 as of today.

Vanderbilt averages 349 yards per game we average 347 yards per game.

Guys have been open most plays. Not saying they don’t need to improve too, but until I see a qb getting rid of the ball early and taking check downs that are open, I don’t know how much I can put on the WR’s yet.

We average 347 passing yards per game?
Those were just passing numbers on the year not total yardage.

I will edit I meant total yards per game.

If Vanderbilt only averages a couple more yards than us per game and they have a substantial lead in passing yardage then we have a substantial lead in rushing yardage.

Either way: they have played 8 games. We have played 6.

I think that's what's killing us is everyone knows there will be no passing. I'm actually surprised we're still averaging that high rushing. Take away the awesome 100 ypg passing, 247 ypg rushing isn't too shabby

In Trooper's day our receivers got those 50/50 balls a lot, but he had them practice rebounding with the BB team. Those BB lads know a thing or two about rebounding.

That are probably making at least $60,000/year. On top of scholarship money.

If they don't produce. Fire them. They are essentially more employee than student. Get rid of them if they don't play well.

Welcome to the real world. Wanna get paid? Produce. Don't produce? You're gone.

College football is such a shitshow. Wanna be done with this sport so bad.. lol

Bill Parcels used to beg Charles Barkley to come try out with the New York Giants to play TE, way before it was cool to convert basketball PFs into football TEs

Would be helpful if we had a better wide angle, but in most games this year when I've taken the time to watch replays, we've had guys open.

Combination of the ball coming out late, not finding the open WR, and putting the ball in bad spots (where the WR is going to take contact or can't shield the ball with his body).

Absolutely true. We can't make the "purposely wide and a little underthrown" catch that your playmaker is supposed to adjust to and grab. We can't make contested catches - when most of our throws are a little late so a DB is breaking on the ball.

It's a combination of stuff. With an amazing QB maybe those WRs are able to play above their level a bit. With better WR maybe BT looks a bit better because we're beating contested catches more.

It's actually pretty incredible. If we had a reasonable passing attack this could be a formidable offense.

The WRs are pretty bad but the entire offense is bad. Game plan QB play OL play. Hell even the TEs are bad outside of some blocking except Fairweather he can’t block anyone.

In the recruiting threads for years now I’ve been bitching about WR recruiting. Yeah guy may be a 4 star but I think one class of our WRs were 42nd, 47th and 80something. I think one of those guys transferred in the spring after his redshirt season if I’m not mistaken. You eventually have to get some top 20 guys and have at least 1 top 10 guy on your roster at all times.

Same can be said for every position group. Got to get a top 10ish QB every couple years. Gotta get a few single digit linemen on both sides of the ball. You can take some fliers on some kids that have the frame but it can’t just be those type guys. Pass rushers in the SEC you need a top 10 guy almost every year to stack on the roster. Linebacker need 1 top 10 player every couple seasons to go with other guys in the teens. DB gotta have many guys in the top 20 at their spots. If you can get some top 10 guys great. But the 67th ranked safety is tough to compete with.

Yea I mean the offense is bad but having a guy like a Keon Coleman or other true top 1/3 of the SEC WR1 and I think things look very very different. We don't really have a WR who is a 1x1 matchup issue or a guy who can make the QB "look good".

WR Didn't really hit on our top transfer targets (Rara and KC) - would have been enormous to get either of those guys... Getting a 6'3" guy with speed and hands... P Thompson probably starts Day 1.

QB People need to remember that Thorne was like a 4-5th option checkdown. We swung and missed on a LOT of people before taking him. Is he set to graduate btw? Will be very awkward if we go out and get other QB(s) in the portal and he's still on the roster.

TE: I can't hate on our tight ends too much honestly all things considered But yea I saw Fairweather miss some blocks and flat out laughed.

RBs are a bright spot for me. I expected JH to be about as good as he is, but Battie has been a big surprise. He is nimble enough to effectively run inside which is crazy at his size.

Oline: At the end of the day I can't hate too much. I knew the cupboard was absolutely bare. OLine would have also been a little bit better if we had 1-2 more guys at the level of our best 4. Think some guys are playing out of position and have nagging injuries etc. Feels like we should just go try to throw money at any all conference underclassmen we can.
