The Nebraska Cornhuskers are on the verge of missing out on going to a bowl game for the 7th year-in-a-row.

Their current record stands at 2-3 and the rest of their schedule isn't looking too promising, although the next 4 games are maybe winnable, but equally losable, as well.

Should Nebraska miss out on going to a bowl game this season, it will be their longest streak without bowling since the 1941-1955 span of going 13 years without a bowl game. Hard to fathom for such a blue blood like the 'Huskers.

ETA: Nebraska holds the NCAA record of 35-straight bowl games from 1969-2003.

Hasn't been in a while.

What 4/5 star athlete not from Nebraska wants to go play football there? It is cold and not close to anything and haven't won anything in current high school kids lives.

Doesn't matter. They are spending $450,000,000 to improve fan experience at the stadium.

Seems like it would be cheaper to improve the fan experiece by putting a much better product on the field itself. But hey... what do I know.

The ‘Texas killed X-Y-Z conference’ can be argued to the end of time. And there are some valid points to be made by all parties.

What cannot be argued, and what I’m personally very proud of…

Texas KILLED Nebraska.

Biggest mistake they ever made was firing Frank Solich. He went 10-3 in 2003, but that wasn't good enough, they left the Nebraska family for Bill Callahan from the Oakland Raiders. Never really recovered.

They deserve all the misery they get for firing Frank Solich over a 58-19 record

The formula was steroids and Prop 48 super thugs.

All good things come to an end eventually.

Bob Devaney was the best college football coach in America in his day while at Nebraska, then Tom Osborne, his protege, followed him, and was also great!
Devaney recruited from the ENTIRE country, and used the red-shirt system, especially with his linemen, to develop them physically. He figured out how to have his team legally practice nearly year-round.

It's sad. They're fans are really nice/good people. At least all the ones I interacted with at the Cotton Bowl.

Their "secret sauce" under Osborne was two-fold. One, the "walk on" program, that was endowed with private money and pretty much functioned as another scholarship program. And two, for a time they really were ahead of the pack regarding their strength and conditioning program. At least according to what I've heard various analysts and former players discuss.

The sands shifted under their feet when the rule they were exploiting changed. With all the bitching Saban did about NIL I wonder if the sands are shifting under Saban now?

Not really. They were always the most likely blue blood to drop off. It’s more hard to fathom that they ever gained such status.

They should have never left the Big XII. They lost their lifeline to recruiting when moving to the B1G.
