Harvey would be proud...

Famous 'Sycamore Gap tree' in northern England found cut down overnight

quote:

Authorities in England have arrested a 16-year-old boy after one of the most famous trees in the world was cut down overnight Thursday.

The "Sycamore Gap tree," also sometimes known as the "Robin Hood tree," was found deliberately cut down early Thursday, according to officials.

"Northumberland National Park Authority can confirm that sadly, the famous tree at Sycamore Gap has come down over night," the park wrote in a statement. "We have reason to believe it has been deliberately felled."

quote:

The tree, which is about 300 years old, was located next to Hadrian's Wall, built by the Romans beginning in 122 A.D. to mark the northern limits of Roman Britannia.

"I can’t express how angry I am at the vandalism of the tree at #SycamoreGap," North of Tyne Mayor Jamie Driscoll wrote on X, prior to the arrest. "People have had their ashes scattered there. People have proposed there. I’ve picnicked there with my wife and kids. It’s part of our collective soul."

Are we sure that the man is truly dead?

I know this is a troll thread, but this is terribly sad. I hope they find and prosecute the a-hole that did it.

People have no respect for anything anymore.

Indeed. 300 year old tree and some 16 year old piece of shite comes along and just saws it down.

It's very sad. Hopefully they will replant something there in it's honor or tribute but it will unfortunately never be the same.

This is what happens when you let the radical leftists control your schools. The children are taught to not care about their country’s culture and past. They’re taught to destroy it to make way for woke propaganda.

Just glue it back together. Was the kid named Humpty Dumpty?

On a serious note thats pretty sad. That tree started growing in around 1700. I think they should castrate the kid.

Wonder what his motivation was? A dare? Some eco BS? Paid off to do it?

Robin Hood was rAyCiSt... so let's cut this tree down and replace it with a statue of a career criminal who spent his entire life committing heinous acts against the public...

Near Madison there is a field with a lone oak off by itself ..I passed it last Sunday and thought...soon I'll get that picture. and now some 16 yr j/a does j/a things

If saws/chainsaws aren't already illegal in England, they will be now.

“Effective, modern axe-control would have prevented this unspeakable tragedy. If we had only implemented common-sense axe safety laws, we would not be mourning this national treasure today”.

Looks like a 16 year old kid.

I actually feel badly for him. He's just young and dumb and doesn't realize how badly he has damaged his life.

Really sad story but very suspicious. Most 16-year-olds today wouldn't even know how to start a chainsaw and it would require a big chainsaw to bring that tree down. Just looking at the cut tells me there's more people involved than one guy.

Boomers really are pathetic.

Is it how badly you failed to live up to your parent's generation's example that compels yall to shite on everybody all the time?

If he wanted to be famous, he'll get his wish... but yeah, no way he factored the personal cost.

Definitely parents better move, if he's local. Probably took away people's livelihoods from tourism $$.

"Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, all is vanity."

Yes, on the one hand it's just a tree, but on the other hand this illustrates the impermanence of... well, everything, really. Everything we think will last will, eventually, end.

Damn. Now I'm depressed. Over a tree I never saw and didn't even know existed until I read this thread.
