It has actually been well stated that despite Lanning’s excellent work as DC and OLB coach, he dropped the ball in recruiting a bit.

You're being a little harsh.
He brought in Nolan and Jermaine Johnson.
Missed on MJ Sherman.
Like it or not: Chaz has outplayed his recruiting ranking. He will sign as a udfa at a minimum.
Everyone else is an underclassman.
I don't grade them until after 3 years in the program.

I’m not sure how he could be considered draftable as an edge player, tbh. Pass rushing is about 95% of what the NFL cares about in that spot, and his measurables won’t wow anyone.

Special teams is his path.
Signing as a udfa doesn't guarantee a roster spot or even a practice spot.
He's a potential depth piece for a team.

I don’t think he’s fast enough to be a STs specialist
I’m sure someone will sign him as an udfa mostly because he played for Georgia, but I think that’s probably the best he could hope for as of now

He's going to run 4.6 to 4.7 in the 40.
How fast do you think linebackers and tight ends on special teams have to be?
I didn't say punt or ko returner.
He isn't going to be a gunner (CB/WR).

Sub 4.8, but not 4.6. I'd put money on that.
He might not be Georgia fast, but don't act like he's not an athlete. It's like my nephew thinking his mom was taller that Steph Curry because he looks short on TV next to other players. That's not how it works.

I didn't say he would run a 4.60 flat.
I said he'd fit between 4.6 and 4.7 on his best 40 time.
At 240 pounds, that's a good range to fall into.
And it's plenty fast enough for special teams at his size.

I’m not saying he’s not an athlete. Your average 22 year old dude would have trouble breaking 5.5. He’s certainly way, way faster than that. I just don’t see him being athletic enough to do much in the NFL. That’s an extremely high bar.

Predicting players 40 times at the Combine or Pro Day is pointless. We were told that Travon Walker wasn't fast enough to drop back in coverage and that's why he wasn't an outside linebacker, and then Travon Walker ran a 4.5 40 at the Combine and drops back in coverage all the time.

UGA is not in the playoff because bad bounces/calls, key injuries at multiple positions, and (especially) less than stellar play at key moments.
Why is everyone acting like we're facing a 3 year rebuild?
4 points away from the CFP. It's sobering.

Coverage is more than just 40 time.
I think JDJ's straight line speed may be decent.
But his hips are tighter than Bill Goldberg's pickle jar.
It takes a lot more than a good 40 to be good in coverage.
The problem evaluating Chaz is that we never know his responsibility. We can have an idea. But even then, there may be techniques he is instructed which impact the ability to execute that responsibility.

Who said that? He did that at Georgia all the time and was awesome at it.

This is certainly true, but zero sacks is an extreme lack of production out of his position.

Yea. I can clearly see when it’s obvious pass and he gets ragdolled by D2 tackles.
Posted on 12/9/23 at 9:43 am to Crowknowsbest
I don't think anyone expected Chaz to create his own sacks this season.
But you are right. I'm sure everyone expected some "hustle" sacks where he tracked down a QB on the backside of a scramble or just finally broke through on a coverage sack.
Hustle guys are still supposed to get hustle sacks.
