We killed USC on those little flares and bubbles.
Which brings up a terminology learning moment.
A screen pass by definition has to do more with the blocking. A screen is when you let the defense into the backfield and send lineman down to block at second level while throwing over or around the rushing D lineman, but completing the pass behind the LOS. This allows you to block downfield legally.
A tunnel screen is thrown to an outside receiver who is typically in twins or trips. The inside receivers block downfield and the outside receiver runs towards the QB, catching the ball behind the LOS. This can be done with lineman releasing as well, but usually not all of them. There are also fire screens and other screens with receivers that can go to the outside called bubble screens where the receivers run towards the sidelines/away from the QB (these routes can have blocking, but can also be run without blocking with the other receivers running downfield, making the defensive players commit to stay with them. You can run this route a few times and have the defense bite on it and then throw to a receiver over the top of the coverage.)
A Flare is when a back runs out of the backfield towards the sideline and then turns upfield catching the ball behind the LOS, but having forward momentum. This can be a primary call or part of a pass play with all kinds of options for the other receivers. This is not a screen play unless there is planned downfield blocking pre-pass and then the same route would be considered a bubble screen or something like that.
Of course, there are also a number of short routes that are run past the LOS by a few yards that are not screens. Just short passes.
These type plays are higher percentage plays from a completion standpoint. They also have a cumulative affect as they make the D Line have to chase sideline to sideline, wearing them down and not allowing them to key on a play. They also open up deeper passes as the Safety(s) may cheat going down hill on a formation after having to tackle a dude in open field all game.
Plays set up other plays and plays also are run for a cumulative affect on the defense. Keep that in mind when questioning an individual play.

21 passes were thrown 5 yards or less down field while we had 4 passes go for more than 15 yards down field. The problem is definitely not Beck. We are way to talented at our skill positions for this to be our offensive game plan.

Here's a question for those that know more than me - why isn't Beck allowed to check out of things? For example, the up the middle when the 2 linebackers and safety comes down? Around the ends? Positive yardage. Up the middle when that happens? What do you think? Now, is is that Beck can't read that and just runs what he's told? If he can't read that, then that's an issue. If he's not allowed, then who is that on? Booboo.

80% Beck went to his first and only read. Most being the run/pass. I am ok with that play and we blocked well most of the time.
The option trick play with the wide open guy long and he went to a covered Bowers was the one that was obvious he had his mind made up.

Sucks arse
We are in the middle (or maybe at the beginning) of the greatest period of Georgia football ever and you're gonna bitch on a message board "during" a game??
Put the damn phone down and watch the game then you can make an arse of yourself afterwards.

What does that even mean? What should our offensive game plan be?
I’ll add we are averaging 12.4 yards per completion.

I agree about that tunnel screen call but consider SC's first TD. They ran their screen play on a long third and goal when we were blitzing and it worked like a charm.
I would like to see Beck more aggressive and more in rhythm. Maybe we will see that down the road. Beck has the ability to do much more.

I may not know more than you, but maybe Beck is not comfortable checking out of plays at the line. If he looks to the sideline and they signal him a new play, then he may be better at that but that uses time.

Then that's an issue, no?

Effective short passes are a good thing as an alternative to telegraphed run plays.
You actually argue there should have been more short passes on 3rd and short when we got stonewalled a number of times.
Those plays under Center weren't cuttin' it.
It's clear that our OL is not strong enough to overpower the opposing defense on obvious 3rd and short run plays.

We converted 3 4th and 1 plays last game which were huge. Two we overpowered them and 1 we “telegraphed “ the run and then did a little waggle pass for the 1st down…

Is that considered good? By comparison, 2021 Stet was completing 10 yards per attempt.

It means that 1) they have Beck handcuffed Bc they are afraid he’s going to turn it over or
2) Beck isn’t making the right reads
I’m going to go with 1 Bc if it’s truly the same system that’s been in place(which is what I have been hearing) he should know the reads by now. And after his 3rd year and he doesn’t know the reads well that’s a bigger problem. But in my opinion that they don’t have enough trust in him to stretch the field yet. But hopefully that 3rd quarter showed Kirby that he is cable of making good throws down the field. And Beck is averaging 8 yards per completion for the season

We're running the same offense. Anyone who knows football can tell you the plays are the same.

FWIW... and it might not mean much this early against our competition...

What we are witnessing is the need of a boogie man. People with low emotional IQ need this person in place to project the pain of losing upon when it inevitably happens.
The truth is, Bobo isn’t Monken, but he is running Monken’s offense. He is also breaking in a new QB. The defense is good enough to not require our offense to score a ton of points. It is also clear that Kirby wants high% plays that move the sticks and minimizes chances of turnovers. The net affect is our offense runs more plays than the other team, which wears down the opposing defense. It has been a good plan so far. We have gone down field just enough to keep them honest and have not had the need to do so more to date. It doesn’t mean we can’t. It means we don’t have to.

But without a Darnell freak show and Kenny McIntosh back, is it really the same offense?
And even if playbook is the same, the plays should still make sense. Just because the play was used last year, doesn't mean calling a 3rd and 8 screen/extension of run game with a numbers disadvantage is a smart choice.
With the new clock rules, we can't afford to keep starting so slow. Grinding out 12-15 play drives isn't sustainable. Beck/Bobo need to be more aggressive early in my opinion.

I agree with your premise. I also am glad you pointed out that we don't have Darnell.
Or Kenny.
Or AD
Or ladd
Or Branson
Or kearis
Or brod Jones
Or willock
Even if we had monken this year idk what kinda miracle he'd be working

I sensed they went a tad more up tempo in the 2nd half. I think that's going to be the happy median for UGA fans regarding Bobo.
He can't have this slow plodding tempo. Forget what game it was this season they had the defense scrambling during a hurry up only to check down a good 10 seconds allowing the defense to settle and of course an unsuccessful offensive play.

We scored a lot off that play under Monken. Now people don’t want Bobo to run Monken’s offense?
