Unfortunately the 2005 scoreboard doesn't reflect the arse whipping that happened on the field.
I mean...statistics wise it doesn't reflect that either:
Total Yards
ALA - 188
AUB - 257
Turnovers
ALA - 0
AUB - 1
First Downs
ALA - 11
AUB - 13
The difference in the game was Alabama's total lack of pass protection, which led to incredible field position for Auburn, which led to three first quarter touchdowns for Auburn.

Brodie Croyle was a very good QB and had a live arm. He just didn't have anyone blocking for him.
In 2003 when Sheila went 4-9 the starting OL had 4/5 starters that made NFL rosters
Evan Mathis
Justin Smiley
Wes Britt
Dennis Alexander

Broke his leg halfway through the season against Tennessee.

For those that think Sheila never had players. He went 4-9 with this bunch....
Starters on D that made a NFL roaster
Anthony Bryant
Jeremy Clark
Antwan Odom
DeMeco Ryans
Freddie Roach
Derrick Pope
Anthony Madison
Charles Jones
Roman Harper
Charlie Peprah
Starters on O that made NFL rosters
Brodie Croyle
Wesley Britt
Justin Smiley
Dennis Alexander
Evan Mathis
Shaud Williams
So 16 starters made NFL rosters and Sheila found a way to go 4-9 with them

I was at his “signature win” vs Florida.
That was the game that Dee Webb landed in Prothro’s leg and severely broke it.

If only there was a way for you to determine if Brodie Croyle was drafted and spent a few seasons (including starting some games) in the NFL
You're right, completely forget he was drafted to KC

I was a season ticket holder in 2006 and made all of the home games. I liked Mike a lot and was hoping he would get one more year…until the Miss St game. Bama got pushed around on both sides of the line of scrimmage that game and, even at Low Tide, that should never happen.

Honk if you sacked Brodie

I appreciated what Mike did for us but you can't go 6-6 in year 4 at Bama and expect to keep your job.

“The thought of Sylvester Croom as the head coach at Alabama is insane to me. He still fully believes he should’ve gotten the job and has alluded to his belief that him not getting it was a race thing. But that would have been an abject disaster, kinda like it was when he was at State.
I know that Croom beating Shula in ‘06 was basically the final nail in Shula’s coffin. But Croom just flat out sucked. Never had a single offense to finish in the Top 100, and the embarrassing losses State had in that era are way too many to count. “
Completely disagree with the State part. Coach Croom had to completely build back the State program from the disastrous 2002-03 seasons. While I will always love Coach Sherrill, the end of his tenure at State was horrific. Then Croom had to purge about 20 talented but very malcontent players right off the bat. Croom did a great job of laying the foundation of the program and he slowly recruited better along the way and left CDM a lot of talent in the cupboard (including the 2009 class). Now one thing thing he was not able to do was to sign an elite QB (until he landed Tyler Russell).
No , he did not suck. His record doesn’t do him justice in the respect of what he did for the program.
Now regarding Alabama, given the restrictions the program was under during that time, it would be hard to imagine that he would have done any better than Shula.

Lost me at “great story done by AL.com”
I agree with some of what you said about Shula, but I was there, I know better. And, al.com is trash. Pure trash.

Not that many Alabama fans seriously disliked Shula, in my opinion. It was simply time for a change. How many times can a team heart-breakingly lose in the 4th quarter?
I appreciate what he did given the circumstances. However, your point about the fourth quarter is noteworthy. It took Saban like three games to do what Shula couldn’t do in 4 years: win a game in the fourth quarter.

Shula is probably remembered a little more fondly than he should be because of how quickly things turned around under Saban. It’s like if you wreck your car at 8:00 AM Tuesday and hit the lottery later that day, you don’t care about the car wreck and it becomes a funny memory of your former life. But if you lose your job later that day and the future is nothing but bleak, there ain’t shite funny about that car wreck.
Shula was not an Alabama caliber coach, period. And he didn’t take the job as a favor to Bama in a pinch because coaches don’t do that shite. Smart wouldn’t be at UGA if it were not a top job, and UGA would not have hired him if he were not a top coach.
Shula was a decent, likeable man with a famous last name who delivered a couple of key moments at Bama as a QB and HC. He was a good college quarterback but not a good college coach.

Shula was definitely the guy who agreed to come in and fall on the sword while Bama was under sanctions, and I think he did an admirable job with what he had to work with.
The Mike Shula base defense that focused on the same alignment, every snap, and not tipping their hand regarding blitz or zone I honestly thought was genius. Absolutely genius.
He just didn't have the pieces. But I thought it was a fantastic scheme.
