(Edited: Perhaps I coronated LSU a bit prematurely. That was an arse-whoopin' today.)
Preface this rant by saying I can chip in a few bucks here and there, but the money we need ain't coming from guys like me ...
LSU is about to win a national baseball title. The coach is in his first season.
Skenes. White. Two big pieces. Why single out those two? Transfers.
Not good transfers. Not great transfers. Elite transfers.
So, no, it's not coaching. It's not facilities. It's not player development. It's talent.
Talent wins.
In my lifetime, we've had the talent to win one of the big three exactly once. Then, we were led by a generational Arkansas kid.
In this day and age, money talks and everything else loses. We bad need our Waltons and Tysons and Hunts and Stephens and Joneses to raid their couches for a few million to buy us the players we need to not just win — we've been winning at a pretty good clip — but, dammit, win it all.
"Oh, but Louisiana is a poor state. Why did those players go there?"
Well, genius, look at that big billboard touting all their national titles. Success begets success.
I harbor no illusions that we can ever again win a national title in football. Not gonna happen.
Muss is close. Has gotten close. Maybe he can get us across the finish line. I hope so.
DVH is gonna need help. Without some elite transfers, he'll never be able to beat the elite teams. (Yes, I know we've won more games than anyone in the past few years. How many national titles do we have to show for it?)
Maybe I'm just pissed thinking about LSU winning another title. Corndog bastards.

This is the second year for the LSU coach I thought?
But yes point taken. Gotta get trophies to get talent.
Simple fact is, the school, Boosters and admin have long been A-OK with just feeling relevant and being perceived as having a seat at the table with the big boys instead of being Champions.
Van Horn will never win a national title. It's just not in the cards.
Diefel seems to have lots of talent, but they have never gotten out of the Supers.
Muss will continue to throw everything he has into the program, but something seems weird with recruits right now. I think the NSJ stuff hurt us But the Walsh comments did as much or more.
Football is a lost cause. The addition of UT and OU will make it even worse. I'll be amazed if they ever can regularly hit 8-9 wins again. Just the simple realities.

Most talent doesn’t always win it though. See the Duke team with Zion that had three lottery picks and didn’t make the final four. I’d argue Wake Forest is still probably the best team this year, but they won’t win it either.
LSU’s bullpen was complete garbage and had a miraculous turnaround kinda like Ole Miss last year just at the right time for no reason.

The lack of money didn't cost us the title in baseball.
DVH is the Dan Marino of baseball. He just can't put together a championship caliber coaching staff.
Great coach and even better person.
Just my .02

The elite baseball teams are getting really good. I don't remember watching the CWS and thinking "wow these teams are WAYYY better than us" but that's what it feels like this year. The pitching in particular is just ridiculous.

Florida's batting averages, OBP, and HR stats are absolutely ridiculous. From top to bottom, they are statistically (offensively) better than LSU. But, as we all know, it's all about finding the juju at the right time. It appears that LSU has found it.

If you don’t think it matters then you aren’t paying attention. Put Skenes and White on this years Arkansas team and there is a very good chance they are sitting right where LSU is.

This team wasnt gonna go very far with Slavens, Bolton and Rowland in the every day lineup. Plus, Wegner and Jace had been really struggling.

I disagree, Tygart, Smith, and Hollan are all arguably better pitchers than anything LSU has after Skenes and Arkansas is better defensively. Arkansas very likely wins game 2 against TCU with Skenes and then would be waiting on TCU with Smith and Tygart fresh. Pitching and defense wins in Omaha. LSU has averaged 4 runs per game in Omaha.

We’ve lost our ace 2 years in a row. In fairness if skenes goes down in the preseason LSU isn’t a 1 seed. I doubt Wiggins would have been anywhere near that good but you never know.
We lost seven position players from last year. We mostly reloaded except for at shortstop and catcher. The roster rebuild should be much easier this year.
Depending on how the draft and portal go we’ll be one of, it not the most talented team in NCAA.
Having said that I doubt dvh ever wins a title. He’s running out of time and so many random things have to fall in line to win that tournament. Just don’t see it happening.

My point was there was no NIL/money in 2018. Were teams cheating, definitely.
Don't expect Arkansas to ever cross that line. And if you think boosters are stepping up to bring in top talent, then I can't help you.
Top 10 team year end and year out, works on the hill

I always laughed when our fans and media tried to fart rainbows about A&M joining in 2012, as if it was somehow good for us. To the contrary, it took away our sales pitch of giving Texas kids the closest opportunity to play SEC football.
Now we’ve added two top tier programs who also own the state of Texas in recruting and actually back it up with booster money, and it puts us further behind the 8 ball.

Arkansas lost recruiting in Texas when they left the SWC and stopped playing Texas and the aggies. Now you have programs like Ole Miss, Ohio State and Alabama getting better players out of Texas than Arkansas. That was unheard of decades prior.
This forced Arkansas over the years to recruit other states that they historically haven't such as Florida, Alabama and Georgia. Arkansas thanks to Pittman is getting better players out of Georgia, Florida than Texas.
The problem isn't the aggies, the addition of Texas and Oklahoma but the continuous hiring of bad coaches since joining the SEC.

It’s both.
We stepped on our own dicks a few times in terms of coaching hires.
The addition of two superior programs in Texas and Oklahoma in terms of history and booster support will do us no favors, either. Both will also get better and more preferential treatment from the SEC home office than we have received since joining, for those very reasons.

Ole Miss and LSU I believe were ranked number one in back to back years before the seasons began.

The aggies made zero improvement joining the SEC. You can look at the records when they were in the Big 12 and the and SEC and they are a mirror in mediocrity.
Texas has a soft and lazy culture, they couldn't dominate an inferior Big 12. Unless they grow some balls real soon then they will struggle in the SEC.
Oklahoma and the sooner fans are much tougher than the Texas fans. They will have a better time in adjustments but the days of winning a conference title each year is over and they sure aren't going to dethrone Bama or Georgia.
The worst enemy of Arkansas is themselves and no one else.

There was several home grown Arkansas players, the majority of which are from a half hour from campus who were good enough to play in the CWS, they just weren't good enough for DVH, not that Arkansas was outbid for them.
It's not a money problem, it's not a talent problem, never has been never will be.

That is just as ridiculous as the people that used to say that about Nolan when Ole Miss was beating him with Arkansas kids
