I gotta blame Yurachek for this.
Swapped LSU for Mizzou on Thanksgiving, and now get Mizzou as permanent baseball opponents.
The worst trade deal in the history of trade deals.

Although having Mizzou sucks maybe we can rack up those wins against them. Only silver lining.

This was way deeper than Yurachek baw.
Mizzou is the new kid on the block and we're supposed to consider those fricks rivals.

Arkansas catcher Ryder Helfrick (Aaron Fitt)
And the coaching staff believes Helfrick has superstar potential, with an innate knack for finding the barrel, which he did four times in five plate appearances during my visit. His bat will be hard to keep out of the lineup early in his career, and he is undoubtedly the catcher of the future — but he might also wind up being the catcher of the present, despite the presence of the three more experienced veterans on the roster. He’s that good.
“Here’s a guy that comes in here and we didn’t think he was gonna get to school,” Van Horn said. “Then he gets to school, and all of a sudden — this is what we deal with. We don’t know. We didn’t have enough catchers the last two years, and then we get our starter back [Rowland], and he’s had the best fall. Helfrick’s hit three or four homers, Rowland’s hit three or four, but he’s also hit some doubles. Helfrick’s just been a tough out. He doesn’t strike out much. He’s gonna make us play him, and we’re gonna play him. He’s got a great arm, and he can really catch.”

That is on the SEC I am afraid.
Look, Arkansas vs LSU was a great series, with some very important games. But LSU vs A&M probably gets more people watching it as the season finale. We fell victim to the ratings.
So if we are out of the running on that one... we are left with Missouri who doesn't have anyone else to dance with.
I assure you, they aren't thrilled to be our dancing partner either. They'd rather be playing Kansas for their final game. We are stuck together. We can't go with USC, who we had a nice rivalry with, because they are booked up with Clemson.
Maybe they will shake things up once Oklahoma and Texas join. Both schools will need a season ending rivalry game. Oklahoma vs Missouri and Texas vs Arkansas are both match ups that should draw some eyes and have some real history behind them.

Certainly starting to look that way.

On second thought, no reason to bring football juju into this sport too.
I do feel bad if that kid ends up leaving a decent program after a good year just to ride the pine here, though.

I'm sure he'll still probably get plenty of opportunities at DH and 1B though. As we saw last year injuries will unfortunately happen at some point where we'll need our bench to show up

Sounds like DVH will be having a post Fall Ball presser/chat today . Hopefully, there will be some cliff notes or video afterwards

DVH is high on Helfrick
"He's the future. He may be a guy that catches a lot this year. Time will tell"

Credit to Dudley for the notes:
• DVH gives shout out to all the coaches who won SEC coach of year in the fall
• Happy fall was a healthy one and excited about what this team can achieve
• Position depth is great, makes it all a great battle for lots of spots
• Feels like he has 4 really good catchers when you normally are lucky to have 1 1./4
• Hudson White came the farthest defensively; Parker Rowland had an outstanding offensiverly; Ryder Helfrick is the future, but will also catch a lot this season; Hudson Polk really same on
• Kendall Diggs is the RF
• OF Ty Wilmsmeyer didn't hit this fall, but was good defensively; Will Edmunson looked good and Jayson Jones and Jack Wagner could play out there, too.
• 3B is Peyton Holt, Jared Sprague-Lott and Jayson Jones
• 2B is Peyton Stovall's with JSL and Jones there as well.
• 1B Ben McLaughlin and Jack Wagner
SS Wehiwa Aloy, Nolan Souza and JSL
• Hagen Smith, Kendall Diggs and Peyton Stovall named captains
• Handed out SEC championship rings. DVH mad that people seem to have forgot that. Feels they didn;t get enough credit for over coming as much as they did.
• Smith, Brady Tygart and Mason Molina head up starters. Also mentioned Parker Coil, Gage Gaeckle, Hunter Deitz, Ben Bybee and more
• DVH doesn't think the team is taking a step back at any position except possibly OF.
• DVH notes that he was not really a fan of getting rid of divisions as will be the case next season and he voiced that opinion to the SEC.
He knows now there will be times when they don't play their current Western Division rivals and he's not happy about that. But his happy that Texas and OU are entering league.
• Really happy with Arkansas' new recruiting class, especially under the current rules. Believes that the landed players that will make it here and contribute right away.
Also pleased with new Arkanas Edge NIL collective and with anything that helps him compete with teams that don't have to stick with the 11.7 scholarship limit per se.

I hate that they give the starting spot at 2B to Stovall who is recovering from a major injury and will need while to get acclimated again.

Jones still not starting at 3rd. Interesting. I obviously like him way more than DVH does.

Defense over offense for DVH. I wish there was more give and take with that philosophy with him.

Is Jones really that bad defensively? I thought he looked natural on the corner.
Posted on 11/30/23 at 1:27 pm to Drewbie
I don't think he is, but we have only seen a small sample size. The kid needs the reps to be able to fairly judge. I hope we don't have another Rowland/Bolton issue this year.
