On paper is this our most talented roster ever? I know we had some really high end players but I can remember having this much quality depth.

10. Mason Molina, LHP (Texas Tech to Arkansas)

Molina gives the Razorbacks yet another capable and potential front-line starting pitcher entering the 2024 campaign. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder, started 16 games for the Red Raiders last season, where he struck out 108 and walked 35 in 83.1 innings of work. From a sheer stuff standpoint, Molina is anywhere from 88-92 mph with his fastball, while also having a slider with a 41% whiff rate, per our friends at Synergy. That offering has an average velocity of 79.3 mph, while he also possesses a low-80s changeup and a softer curveball in the mid-70s.

9. Wehiwa Aloy, SS (Sacramento State to Arkansas)

Aloy had a monster freshman season for Sac State and is now headed to Fayetteville to play with the Hogs for the 2024 season. Aloy was a great get for Reggie Christiansen out of high school, and his departure is the unfortunate nature of the transfer portal. He leaves behind a hole after the 6-foot-1, 195-pounder, hit .376 last season with 15 doubles, five triples, 14 homers and 46 RBIs, along with a 1.089 OPS.

Freshman Hunter Dietz is poised to have as productive season as anyone

When it comes to class of 2023 southpaws who made it to college, Hunter Dietz is poised to have as productive a 2024 season as anyone.

Dietz checks plenty of boxes and has the makings of a future Friday night starter in the SEC and potential day one draft pick. He’s a tall, physical, lefthanded pitcher with little effort in his delivery, a starter’s pitch mix, and above-average control of his arsenal.

Kendall Rogers @KendallRogers
Hearing some very good buzz on the
@RazorbackBSB pitching staff, and namely freshman LHP Hunter Dietz. Hearing he's been fantastic -- 94-96 mph with his fastball along w/ big-time secondary stuff. #WPS #SEC #Hogs

Dietz is getting some serious press all over the place.

SEC Newcomer Report: Arkansas

quote:

Though you don’t have to remind the Arkansas faithful (or fans of rival programs) of the hardware Arkansas is missing in its trophy case, it’s tough to view the Razorbacks as anything but the most consistent program in the SEC right now. Each and every year, you can expect Arkansas to compete at the top of the league.

That success comes from plenty of great in-game management and player development, to be sure, but it also comes thanks to excellent recruiting. Arkansas has long been among the best in the conference in terms of bringing in high-end talent and in the last couple of years, it has also been an extremely effective user of the transfer portal. It’s safe to expect that to be the case again.

quote:

Hunter Dietz, LHP (Calvary Christian HS/Trinity, Fla.)

Dietz is an imposing figure on the mound at 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, and his upside is just as big. Coming out of high school, the lefthander was known to have a fastball that sat in the low-to-mid 90s, but already this fall, Dietz has impressed with a fastball that’s been more in the 94-97 mph range according to evaluators who have seen him in person. Freshmen with his frame and his present stuff don’t make it to campus all that often, so Arkansas could very well have a future superstar on its hands.

quote:

Gabe Gaeckle, RHP (Aptos HS/Aptos, Calif.)

At six-feet-tall and 190 pounds, Gaeckle isn’t the biggest pitcher around, but his stuff is a lot bigger than his frame. The No. 55 high school prospect in the 2023 class according to Prep Baseball Report, Gaeckle works with a fastball in the mid-to-upper 90s and the Arkansas coaching staff sees his power curveball as having the potential to become one of the best individual pitches in the country.

quote:

Adam Hachman, LHP (Timberland HS/Wentzville, Mo.)

Not unlike Dietz, Hachman matches incredible stuff at present with a very high ceiling. He stands 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds and has a fastball that already touches triple digits. He complements that with a changeup and a big breaking ball. The No. 83 high school prospect in the 2023 class according to Prep Baseball Report, Hachman had serious draft interest, just like Gaeckle and Dietz, but he removed his name from the draft before the event took place.

I want to get excited so badly... but I know once I do half our bullpen will end up out for TJ surgery or something.

What a damn horrible draw in Missouri.

Why is that stupid school pushed on Arkansas to be a rival? They're literally decent at one sport and that is it.

I just hope this next season is the one we can finally avoid a season ending injury to one of our starters.
