What’s the story with Kentucky being so well thought of by National Media, etc? Casual College Baseball fan, so don’t get to follow as much as I like.

they are a well coached gritty team. They will grind you on at bats, won’t make stupid baserunning errors and have enough pitching to compete with the best

They lose a lot to good teams so their RPI is high. That’s the story.

They play small ball and put pressure on college Ds which can be inconsistent. Good enough pitching. Very reminiscent of the old West coast teams like LBS and Irvine. Pain in the arse to play but don’t overpower you anywhere. If you play solid D and limit walks they can be easily had.

That series could’ve easily been a 2/3 victory for them or a sweep by LSU.

They are a very well coached team. I would rather not face them to be honest. And I wish LSU did some of the things that they do in terms of grinding out ABs, base stealing and bunting.

They are one of those annoying baseball teams.

Not really talented but do all the little things well and wreak havoc when they get people on base. The key to beating them is getting the first batter of every inning out. If I recall in the series against lsu they never scored when lsu got the first batter of the inning out.

How was that series even close to a 2/3 win for them. LSU catches a Pflugerville ball and they sweep

LSU was down 6-4 in the 7th in game 3. I said it could have been a sweep for LSU or 2/3 for them. They won 13-10 that second game as you know.

Dave has taken Arkansas to Omaha playing small ball. It can be frustrating to watch sometimes but it can be effective.

Cal State Fullerton won multiple titles on that shite. Agreed so frustrating when against it.

The Cal St Fullerton teams in the mid 90’s were so good because they could beat you at whatever style you wanted to play, including small ball. The 95 team that rolled over LSU on the way to winning it all is still the best college baseball team I’ve seen play LSU in person.

Except it's not really "it".

Appreciate the other folks here that noted that the team has been well coached and does some fundamental things really well. Their base running can be a lot of fun to watch this season.

The reality is there's only so much talent to go around in baseball, much less the SEC. An AJ Reed type doesn't come along for Kentucky terribly often. I'm ok with Mingione going with a style of play that lets him maximize the talent he has and give his team a potential edge against more talented teams.

Some folks hate it or call it bush league. But I think it's just a coach that recognizes what he's working with.
