I'm sorry (well no, I'm not) but it was NOT the same. Look at the two in context. Who the gesture was directed at? When the gesture was used? Don't just look only at they both used the 'can't see me' gesture. That is a very shallow interpretation of the event. Context is everything.

I've got a ton of A-A friends and acquaintances who feel the same way about this behavior, and it's not restricted to blacks. Whites and Hispanics are there, too!

I went to AIT at Aberdeen, not too far outside Baltimore, back in '91. I went to Baltimore once for a weekend. "Hey GI - you want some coke ? Come on GI - we know you want to party".
Yet - it wasn't all that hard to leave. You just ... leave. Inner Harbor was cool, even then. With the old ship and all that. The Block was a thing back then.
And back then, there was real live Shore Patrol at Inner Harbor. I think just to keep our dumb asses in line. They instructed our group to turn around and go the other way once, when we thought we wanted to go watch a fight and maybe take the winner.
