Man. I spent many a night at the ole Moon Winx.
Not really.

Man, I jerked it in room 8A like 10 times before. I can't believe this.

Actually stayed there a night while a student. Landlord put me up there when the heater went out one winter. It wasn’t too bad then, but that was 1988.

At least the sign still works. Or it did last time I drove by

One time my friends were driving behind me and they didn’t know I saw them behind me. We were going down University East at about 10 PM so as a joke I hit a quick turn into the Moon Winx and got a call about 30 seconds later with everyone yelling at me about what I was doing there. I told them I was meeting an older lady-friend and hung up
Obviously I called back and revealed the joke a couple minutes later

Such a shame they are closing, they had one of the best hourly rates in town.

Someone bought the sign years ago.

I read somewhere that Bear use to have his players stay there the night before a game that was played in Tuscaloosa.
I guess at some point, it must have been a decent motel.

I too have rented a room there in 1967.
Good times were had by all.

Where will the Moon Winx go? Iconic sign removed after lodge closed down
One less beacon marks the Alberta sky, as workers removed the iconic Moon Winx sign Monday, a grinning neon crescent that shone from the sweeping curve rising to the 3410 University Blvd. E. motel for more than 60 years.
It glowed on and off, at least, as constant need for upkeep lead once-owner Jay Patel to seek buyers at least as far back as 2016. Kip Tyner, the Tuscaloosa City Council president and Alberta councilman, posted Monday evening that the landmark sign, emblematic of 1950s and '60s Tuscaloosa when Alberta was an upscale shopping and entertainment a go-to destination, is "gone."
As yet there's no word where the sign may show, but Tyner did note it probably wouldn't be seen in Tuscaloosa. Other media outlets reporting that the Moon Winx sign would pop up in Birmingham are inaccurate, he said.

I'm from out of town and needed a place to stay before the 2013 LSU game. Found the Moon Winx. I walked to BDS and back from the motel. It was pretty gross then and there was definitely more than 6 people living there!

Didn't they have hourly rates?
