We really went back-to-back

With Stetson Bennett at QB. I still don't even know how that happened. I was one of the ones who wanted to bench him after Bama raped us in the SECCG. He had this outlook of being a walk-on nobody who didn't scare anyone and then he would show out on the field.
However now that he is gone, I would like to hear what opposing fans actually thought about him and his time at UGA.

Not at all. Just asked what you actually thought about having to play Stetson Bennett and if your thoughts changed after you played him.
We gave him so much sh*t, myself included, but looking back on his resume (especially in the playoffs) the kid was a baller.

An average QB who benefited from playing on some of the most stacked teams in cfb history

I thought that he was pretty average after the '21 SECCG but he made me a believer at some point in the 2022 season. He was an exceptional QB.

Why didn’t this work for Bryce?

But our offense really wasn't anything spectacular outside of Brock Bowers. Yeah we had Darnell Washington but he didn't make a huge impact catching passes.
We had a good O-Line absolutely but they broke down several times and Stetson had to scramble and make great plays with his feet.
Why doesn't he get credit for the amazing 4th quarter comeback against OSU? Instead we just say "OSU blew that game". If that game was flipped we would be saying "Stroud led an incredible comeback that will be remembered for decades"
I think it's time we give the man his due.

He got the job done, no doubt about that. If I had known what a prick he was at the time though I would have rooted harder for the Joe Theisman treatment at Faurot last year.

Pretty solid take although I would posit that he also had a HUGE chip on his shoulder and sometimes that makes people work harder and compete more....but in reality there havn't been many QBs who started in the SEC in recent years, at least on teams with winning records, who didn't stand a good chance of being as successful as Bennett. It is impossible to quantify how much of the success is due to Bennet but he was the starting QB so at least some of the success was on him. The 4th quarter of the 2021 title game was all Bennett in my opinion...running on adrenaline and feeding off that chip. I could be wrong though....

He was a good solid QB. He was helped by the amazing O-Line, weapons at all positions on offense and especially your amazing D! I wouldn’t put him anywhere near top 5 sec QB’s all-time but I do think he is top-10 or around 8-13 overall.

I would agree with 90% of this. However I really don't think we had any special/elite skill weapons on offense like B-Young or Stroud had outside of Brock Bowers. Arian Smith and AD Mitchell were hurt most of both seasons. O-Line was great but Stetson definitely made them look better with his scramble ability.

Very accurate passer and a gamer with heart. QBs like that are quite rare. Put them on a team stacked with 5 star talent and you'll win a ton of games, like Georgia has done. Hopefully his replacement is some 5-star headcase who can't make it happen between the ears.

quote:like all teams, the OL was a hodge podge.
He was helped by the amazing O-Line,
Some guys ranked significantly higher than others.
Broderick Jones and Tate Ratledge were high school studs.
Warren McClendon and Xavier Truss were just better than 3 stars.
Devin Willock was a mid 3 star.
It was an amazing OL.
But their blocking was helped by the tight ends and backs.
Their pass blocking was helped by our ability to run the football and by our quick pass game (which destroyed Oregon and South Carolina).
And as has been mentioned, having a senior QB with wheels helped them out a ton.

You don't have to be in 'awe' of UGA....but I would fear us if I was you.
