Am I the only one who still remembers something called the 5th amendment in the bill of rights?

That's why you lawyer up and don't talk.

You never have to incriminate yourself by talking to the police, but lying to them, under certain circumstances, can be obstruction.

It is kinda fricked up that police can lie all they want.

Always remain silent.
Unless there are four of you and a dead person, in which case start fingering the shooter and turn states evidence as quick as you can.
This applies especially if you provided the gun.

Best not to speak to em at all....but it takes some discipline. Very little good ever comes from conversing with the state's muscle and enforcers....and that is the good cops. The bad ones are even worse....

The government doesn’t want you lying to them cause they hate the competition

This isn't the same as "lying to cops".

Did Carter invoke his 5th amendment rights? Did he plead the 5th? Or did he just lie. They are not the same thing.

Deeprig, your rig has sunk....with you in it.
It is illegal to lie to the police in most circumstances. It is a crime to lie about your identity to a law enforcement officer during a traffic stop or while being placed under arrest. Filing a false police report is also a crime. The most serious offense, however, is perjury, which can be a felony.
Don't ever lie to them. Tell the truth; better yet, keep your mouth shut until you get a lawyer.

Lying under oath is lying to the court… it’s called perjury.

You aren't talking to a cop after you've sworn the oath, dummy.
There's a little thing called "the right to remain silent".

Lying and not talking are completely different.

Where is lying to a cop a crime?
Every DWI stop starts with, "just a couple of beers, officer"

How can that dude just go home after that. Another POS to join B Miller at Bama.

Sorry bud, I can't go w/you on this. There is a reason why cops say "you have the right to remain silent" when they Mirandize you
Posted on 3/1/23 at 7:27 pm to deeprig9
It's only a crime if they find out you were lying, which makes you an idiot in the first place.

The 5th Amendment gives you the right to decline to speak with them. It does not give you the right to lie to them.
