Just finished watching the 1993 Sugar Bowl for the first time.

Background: I’m 23. Lifelong Bama fan and recent graduate (thank God). Got home after a long night out and kept it going late
Saw the 1993 Sugar Bowl in my YouTube suggestions and said “what the hell”.
Holy shite what a game. I know it’s mythical status and have seen the highlights, but damn we beat the crap out of them. It was strange watching a full game from “back in the day” but it was awesome. Defense swarming like every guy on the field would be less of a man if he wasn’t a part of every tackle. Offense running right down their throats, and Jay Barker making Greg McElroy look like a National Championship hero
I didn’t realize Teague’s strip happened right after his pick-six. I’ve always known he was a legend, but now I truly understand it. Anyways, thanks for listening to my waning drunken ramblings. Time to go to sleep. ROLL TIDE!!

It was one of my favorite games as my unit was sitting in a hangar for several days waiting to deploy to Somalia. The majority of the guys in my unit that followed CFB were band wagon Miami fans as many were around the country. It was awful listening to them up to the game in that hangar but the long flight over after the game was great for me.

Listening to Keith Jackson with the color commentary seemed like a fitting complement to a near perfect game.

Listened to Geno Torretta talk about the game on Sirius a few years ago. After a couple of series, he's on the headset talking to the coaches wanting to know what Bama's doing on defense. Coaches say it's gonna take another series to figure it out. Gino says, "frick you! My head's hitting the concrete on every play!"

What made it even better at the time is that nobody gave Alabama a chance.. The LA Times blasted the game, saying it should be a FSU / Miami rematch.. The talking heads at ESPN declared it would be a blowout and if memory serves, we opened at like an 11 pt underdog in Vegas.
All week leading up to the game Miami talked trash. Lamar Thomas, their world class speed WR declared Bama plays zone because they are slow and not man enough to play man to man.
Watching him cover his head with towel after getting dominated and run down by Teague was glorious!
It was a win for the ages and it helped all us old Bryant guys finally breath again

Had this poster on my wall growing up. I loved the cheerleaders. One still celebrating, the other realizing what was happening.

The teams were passing each other going opposite ways of different sides of the street, when a bunch of Miami players started to holler insults and s**t-talking. The coaches and managers had to step in between the Miami guys to keep them from turning it physical!
The Miami guys made a huge mistake!

We can thank Coach Bill (Brother) Oliver for that win. His defensive scheme was genius (and daring!
)

I was at that game with my Dad. Still my favorite Bama win of all time and that includes anything in the Saban era.
What made it particularly special was that Miami was at the height of Da U thuggery and arrogance and nobody, I mean nobody, expected Bama to win that game.

Yeah, best defensive gameplan I've ever seen. Sometimes we had 11 men on the line and brought all but 2 or 3...other times with 11 on the line, we dropped back 8 or 9. They had Curry & Copeland lining up all over the place; sometimes both in the middle, sometimes both on the right side, sometimes both on the left side. Torretta didn't know what the hell was going on; he said later it was all a blur. Miami's offense was never gonna get in the endzone against that defense...
That being said, if you'd have told me before the game that Jay Barker would 've gone 4 for 13 for 18 yards and 2 INTs, I would've thought we'd have lost by 3 TDs. Offensively, we scored because of Lassic's tenacity and running lots of traps behind a dominant run-blocking offensive line...
That's still the best defense I've ever seen, not just for Bama, but for any college team...

It was even better in person!!! I was a junior at UA and went down to NOLA with a couple of buddies. We didn’t have tickets for the game but figured “what the Hell? We will try anyway!” Miami fans were some of the rudest and most obnoxious I have ever been around, made LSwho fans seems sensible. We picked up tickets outside the dome for $60! Watched BAMA unleash Hell on Toretta and then proceeded back to Bourbon Street to close down every bar!! Talked a lot shite to this Miami fans as they were loading their luggage into cabs and high tailing it out of town too!!

The game was the same day that my wife’s grandmother passed away. We had been with family at her house somber and sad and then began watching the game. We watched until halftime quiet and respectful and then drove home. Had to listen to the start of the third quarter on the radio and got home just before the Teague play. You could hear the entire neighborhood erupt with screams. It was glorious and kept my wife happy for a while on a sad occasion.

One guy did: Corky Simpson the sports reporter from Arizona.

Third grade me watched it live. At the time I did not realize the greatness I was watching, but I did at least realize that Teague strip was bad arse. When I got in high school we had a coach that was an assistant on the 92 team. When I would talk to him about that game he would laugh about all the shite that Miami players were talking pre-game.

Derrick Lassic got the vast majority of his yardage in the first half. That OL was opening holes the size of double wides that night. Roosevelt Patterson was twenty yards downfield taking on their DBs and the dude was an offensive tackle.

Sherman Williams, Tarrant Lynch, and Martin Houston were also valuable in the running game that night.
