Why are so many people here against players being paid?

I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other personally, and I think that a strong argument could be made one way or the other.
Still don't understand why there's so much negativity on this board about players being paid, however. Is if the fear of the unknown? Nostalgia and pining for the old days? Do people just enjoy ranting about "the end of" things as we know it? Don't quite understand it.

Because they are already compensated:
Full ride scholarship
all books/fees paid
special tutors
all housing paid
all meals paid
+ stipend

Because most of these people were never college athletes and don't get it.

Because so many of them are salty over the concept of an 18 year old with no degree making more money in one year than they'll ever make in their entire pathetic lives.

I watch college football because it's special to me. The lack of "professionalism" in the sport made it fun. The more the sport acts like the NFL with free agency, agents or players demanding more money, etc., the less I like the sport.
I wouldn't mind players getting paid for work off the field (what NIL was supposed to do) if it couldn't be leveraged for playing time or enrollment with a school. When it's used for recruiting, both during high school and after enrollment in a college via the transfer portal, then I think it ruins the sport.

I dont think people are as much against players actually getting paid, it's more that it's turned them into mercenaries every season, or at least thats what I personally dont like about it. At least in the NFL you have a contract that ties you to a certain team for a specified amount of time. With NIL you have guys that have spent years at a place just up and leave to the highest bidder. Kinda ruins the pagentry/spirit of the college level and makes it more proffessional level which sucks.

It’s not really that they’re paid per se, just more against the professionalization of college sports, which is a bigger thing being driven by TV and the conferences.
If I wanted to watch the NFL I would.

RE: Slackaveli
"As of the 2015 NCAA FBS Division 1 season (that's the most recent data I could find) 46.9% of the team rosters were comprised of Black players.
This, of course, is significantly less than the 70.3% of NFL rosters that Blacks filled as of last week's official final 53-man roster submission to the League Offices."

Getting laid on command by co-eds, as well.

It's because they hate capitalism and are commie trash

I think most of us are against the idea on a broad level because we know it's probably just going to increase the rate of decline of CFB overall.
But people are only really against it vocally when their school (which cheated and now plays the NIL game) loses out to another school (which cheated and now plays the NIL game).

i would have never guessed the number to be that low.

Because it's intended to be a fricking extracurricular activity for kids?

Fair enough. But I always see these " decline" and "beginning of the end" posts, but then nobody explains how or why.

College Football has become so top-heavy, it isn't fun for everyone to watch. There is zero parity, and the basement-dwelling championship game ratings prove the point.
When TV interest wanes, dollars wane, etc etc. See Nascar.
Why would we want a league that is essentially NFL-lite, just because a minor league system doesn't exist?

I have no issues with players being paid. I just want it to all be done openly with mutually binding contracts and a salary cap. The secretive bullshite with NIL needs to end.
