Worst ratings for a CFP game

Between ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU, last night's matchup produced the single worst title game viewership numbers since the BCS era began in 1999.

Is this an argument for making the Cinderella team hold the #4 spot next season if not from the Big 10 or the SEC?

I don't know the math.
But someone can look it up, I'm sure.
Is it better to have great ratings in 2 semifinal games and below average in the natty?
Or better to have below average ratings in 2 semifinal games and great ratings in the natty?
I'm sure one is more profitable than the other. My guess would be the 2 great semifinal games. For the longest time, nfl conference championships were great and the super bowls have been a snoozefest.

TCU being a smaller market team plus the game being a mega blowout, is anybody surprised?

It's more a fact that not a single person on the planet with a functioning brain, outside of ESPN tools and the committee thought that any big 12 team deserved to be anywhere near that game than anything else.

Because TCU does not have the big fanbase they claim. TCU is like 5th or 6th in DFW, behind UT, 5$7, Tech, OU and Okie Lite. They’re an expensive private school.

Why were the ratings so low? How could you not think TCU had a chance after beating Michigan?
How are the ratings calculated? Are they averaged out over the duration of the broadcast or just by how many tuned in at the beginning?

They are affected by people turning the tv off. So that happened in droves in the 2nd quarter.

How does the first quarter compare with past games? Can understand why the viewers dropped in half over the course of the blowout.

I bet they were solid enough at kickoff. Not the fairest thing in the world to use average viewership throughout the program

It was over in the first quarter and it was extremely obvious.

Sucks having this game on a Monday night too. College football is played on Saturday. Let the NFL have Monday night.

TCU is in the biggest TV market of all of the playoff teams.
they just don't control that market.

I have been saying this. Monday night sucks so much arse for this game. It should be like 4pm ET kick on a Saturday.

Window dressing
In the end, you want teams that get people to watch. It is why the B1G can push because they bring eyeballs, same with Utx, and USCrubbers. Alabama and Georgia are good, just not enough people live in their markets. The reason the Rose Bowl got ratings was not the quality of the teams, it got ratings because it had a parade (with flowers) to attract non football fans and lots of eyeballs in the upper midwest and west coast.
Notre Dame is somewhat valuable for their national fan base but their real value is fans of other schools who tune in hoping to see them lose.

Small in terms of alumni/graduates, not that D/FW is a small tv market.

They wanted new blood in the playoffs and they got it. How'd that work out for them?

are we making a tv show or are we playing a sport with more than just lip service paid equal treatment? TCU got smoked by Georgia. They also very obviously deserved to be ranked above Ohio st based on what they had done on the field up to that point. Your question acts like the TCU-Michigan and the Michigan-Ohio St games didn't happen.
If you want something to blame, blame Ohio St for apparently choking majorly at home vs Michigan. Or perhaps Georgia playing tight in the semifinal. There's so many different ways to spin what happened, but "TCU didn't belong in the playoff." is only valid if your position is "there didn't need to be anyone in the playoff at all and Georgia should have been awarded the national championship trophy after the SECCG."
