The playoff committee got the 4 teams right. It’s the seeding they got wrong.

If you were ranking those teams without trying to gerrymander the semifinals to not have an immediate Michigan-Ohio State rematch, here’s what it would have been:
1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. Ohio State
4. TCU
The truth is, OSU was the second-best team in the country. Michigan beat them because sometimes that stuff happens in big-time CFB rivalries. Therefore, they earn the nod in seeding.
This is why the semifinals were so great and the championship was over in the 1st quarter. The two best teams played in the semifinals.
The real question should be: is it worth keeping teams from having to play a rematch in the first round if it means worse matchups in the later rounds?

They 100% screwed up the seeding. UGA was going to win it all regardless but UGA-TCU should’ve been a semifinal.
Just seed the teams correctly and forget about any other factors.

What happened in the season prior to selection Sunday that would lead to that conclusion?
Alabama didn’t beat anybody of consequence all year and Tennessee’s only “big” wins were over Bama and a 4-loss LSU team. Those were two weak options.
Clemson or, secondarily, Tennessee would’ve been in easily if they had beaten South Carolina, but “candy and nuts” and all that.
The 4-seed was going to be a weak team that would’ve gotten smashed by Georgia regardless of who you put in there and Bama did absolutely nothing to earn that spot.

You can't penalize previously undefeated TCU for losing a squeaker in the Big XII Championship Game, while elevating tOSU 2 spots for staying at home on Championship Saturday after getting nuked from orbit in their own stadium by their mortal enemy... who cruised to a B1G Championship trophy.
You just can't.
That TCU never trailed to Michigan in the Fiesta is proof that they belonged in the final 4 and were seeded exactly where they should've been.
I get where you're coming from, but the flip side of the "Damn, was TCU really 65-7 bad?" is the reality that the Dawgs were 65-7 good.

You're apparently too stupid to realize that excuse you just used for OSU works for Alabama.
Man you guys can really be dumb.

By that logic, why shouldn’t USC have been in? I know it wasn’t a “squeaker”, but what’s the line of demarcation?
If you lose, you fall. At the point at which you know who your top 4 teams are, cut the shite and rank them. Everybody knew that Georgia-OSU was the national championship game.

OSU lost to #3. Bama lost to #7 and #14.
TCU lost to #10
Also, one loss vs two. And again, I will ask, who did Alabama beat? OSU at least had a win against #8.
Pretending those are the same resumes is ignorant and based on nothing other than “We’re Bama and we should always be in”

Michigan and Ohio State round 2 in Arizona would have been as compelling as either of the 2 games that were played and TCU UGA was going to be ugly no matter what.....but UGA Michigan or UGA Ohio State was going to be good as it gets....but Michigan went into the Fiesta apparently looking ahead and TCU caught them napping like they did everyone they played this season. They may have even caught UGA napping in the Peach Bowl and made that game somewhat interesting. As it is we got 2 good semis and a final that should have never been played and should have been called at the conclusion of 3 quarters.

Two losses to PAC champ Utah.

Bama should have been in ahead of Ohio St. and TCU.
I still believe Georgia would have beaten Bama in the final game, but those were not the best 4 teams in the country at the end of the conference playoffs.

Does anyone doubt that Alabama, LSU or Tennessee would beat TCU pretty easily??? The playoffs have seldom ever consisted of the 4 best teams and it certainly did not this year....Alabama, LSU or Tennessee would have played UGA, UM and OSU as well as those three played the semis....but they all had 2 losses or worse and one of those losses was a blow out and TCU, as bad as everyone knew they were, was the last team standing. usually there are 2 good teams and 2 that merely survived to the end but this season there were 2 and almost 1 which was really good and then one which simply wasn't very good....

Don't lose 2 games during the regular season and you don't have to worry about it.
Objective Bama fans understand that while you might've been 2 plays away from 12-0, you were also 3 away from 7-5.

And how do you figure that?
Bama lost 2 games to teams UGA beat quite handily and couldve easily lost 4. (Yes, they couldve easily been undefeated too because of how they lost.)
But you play the games and the results speak for themselves.
Game isnt played on paper so it doesnt matter that Bama, or any team for that matter, would have been favored over TCU, OSU, or Michigan. Bama would have been favored over TCU even if they lost 3 or 4 games, and you are saying they should get in?
So many people said the committee got it right after the semi-final games, and then turned around and said they screwed up. You cant use hindsight to make that argument.
Like OP said, they got the correct teams, they just screwed the seeding up because they didnt want a rematch in the semifinal games.

"Sometimes that stuff happens" happened twice to Alabama.

1. Congratulations on a great season and Natty. You were the best this year.
2. No, NOT best four teams. Best politically correct four teams.
3. Should have been Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan, Bama.
Of course none of this matters but just had to say my piece.
Again, great win!

The BEST, not most deserving, teams in the country when healthy and rested were:
1) UGA
2) OSU
3) BAMA
4) MICHIGAN
5) TENN
6) LSU
7) TCU
8) PSU
9) USC

So long as Saban is Bama's HC your fanbase is going to assume that based on prior results, that the team should always be in contention, which is not unreasonable. With the CFP expanding to 12, it'll likely happen most years.
The problem comes in while it's still a 4 team affair and no team has ever made it with 2 losses. 90% of that groveling routine we all witnessed Saban perform on Championship Saturday after teams who handled their business to punch their tickets to and win their Conference Championship games was based on the merits of being Nick Saban and achievements of juggernaut Alabama teams which no longer exist. NOT 2022 football results.
