Latest from MSU 247(might've already been posted, sorry)

quote:

I wish I had better news, but I’m told UMMC has transitioned into comfort care measures for Coach Mike Leach. It’s essentially hospice care at this point.

I’m told he’s been largely if not totally nonresponsive since the cardiac event yesterday morning.

It appears to simply be a matter of time now. It all seems so unfair. Life is fleeting. Tell those you love how much you love them. Forgive, forgive, forgive.

We will not be working to break the final story. We will respect the family’s timing on all of that. Yes, we have a story ready to roll, but we will now await the official and unfortunate word from the University.

I can’t believe we’re even having these discussions. It’s so surreal. He isn’t just our football coach. He’s Mike Leach, a national treasure. I’m honored to say he was our coach for three seasons. It’s also nice to remember that he’s going out a winner.

Please remember his family, our coaches and players in your thoughts and prayers.

I love you all and Hail State!

Just awful. I'm praying that he kicks out despite everything I've read here and elsewhere today

Leach was one of kind. No college coach like him. He will be missed!

Very sad for Leach and his family. I thought he didn't look well during the Egg Bowl.

Just started to read this thread... so he had a cardiac issue at home, went to OCH and coded during the cath procedure, airlifted to UMMC and coded there again? Presumed brain dead and on life support until family arrives? Is that a correct summary?

It's so sad. He isn't just our football coach, he is America's football coach.

Mike Leach had trouble sleeping late Saturday night. Before he drifted off on the sofa at his home in Mississippi, he sent some text messages to friends.

Leach is 61.

He’s now in critical condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He was airlifted there Sunday. It’s been reported that the Mississippi State football coach suffered “a massive heart attack.” That may or may not be true. His family isn’t even certain of that yet, I’m told. But I do know that Leach has been suffering from heart failure for a while.

Fluid around his heart.

Fluid around his lungs.

He’s battled pneumonia this season, too. You may have noticed, Leach has had a persistent, hacking cough.

I’m told that Leach didn’t exactly collapse at his home, as some reported. He’s not brain dead, as others have indicated on social media. The football coach was found on the sofa, unresponsive, after what some think was 10-15 minutes. EMTs showed up and did their jobs. Doctors then worked all day Sunday to sedate Leach, stabilize him, and are now beginning to assess his condition.

Does it sound bad?

Very much so. But as one member of his inner circle said: “He’s still with us.”

In between Texas Tech and WSU he did a show on XM Radio with Jack Arute.

Arute was obnoxious, but Leach's commentary was excellent: erudite, insightful, and entertaining. Glad he returned to coaching, but missed hearing him on there.

This one really sucks.

All of these insiders rushing to post what they heard on Twitter and get attention really are trash. Wait for an official medical statement and shut up

thinks it's reasonable to give a few days if brainstem function is still intact. I have several pt's that were declared "brain dead" by neurology due to lack of organized brain activity on EEG. Lucky for them, I refused to sign off without giving them a fighting chance. One sat up and requested coffee two days later. I had the administrator that tried to temporarily suspend my privileges to take her off the vent serve it to her.

I said similar earlier in the thread. Should never pull the plug immediately. Give it a week or two then do it if no signs of improvement

If true, then it may not be as grim as prior reports suggested. In a situation like this, it may take 24-48 hours to really know. Went through a similar situation with my father just under 2 years ago. Had a 1% chance of surviving initially, was placed on ECMO (COVID related) but then made a miraculous recover. Was extubated, arrangements made for us to visit him and discharge planning discussed. Unfortunately, he had much more going on and the damage to his body was too much and he passed suddenly, but he was intact cognitively after multiple cardiac arrest and severe refractory hypoxia. He was 63.

Maybe that's why I'm holding out so hard for Leach. He was a favorite of me and dad. Losing him is like losing another connection to my dad. The power of prayer can be miraculous, even if it doesn't end well. At least with ours, my mom got one last chance to say all the things that needed to be said and we know he heard and understood them.

I pray this is just the beginning of Mike Leach's story. I very much look forward to his version of these events.

My father died of something similar a few years ago. Hospice would be the end, which is truly saddening. The man was a complete and total thorn in the side of A&M football, but I loved listening to him.

Football loses a great mind if all of this is true. Just wanted to post my regards
