I don’t know how close Kiffin is to Leach but it’s possible that he didn’t know anything extra and just reacted to what the reported asked him, who could have made it sound really dire. Hence all of the past tense language.
He may have even told Kiffin “in case the worst happens”

So many "i heard" like they have a damn source. Bitches heard on another mesg board or twitter. Spreading shite that may or may not be true, but they dont know for sure. This world has went to shite. A man is in a serious situation right now, a man who has a family and many people who love him. And all some ppl can do is jump on a forum to spread what "they heard" from joe blow.

What is most likely going on here is that the home media, the Mississippi media, because they are on the ground and have established relationships with people who will talk on background, know from sources at the university and in the medical community exactly what the situation is here. They not going to say or publish anything specific until there’s a resolution. They are most likely preparing coverage so that they can be ready to push the button once there’s a resolution and any official announcement of something. And they’re waiting for that resolution. And that is a very unpleasant thing to have to do, been there done that. As much as some of you think otherwise, we’re not all ghouls and ambulance chasers.

I never for one second interpreted Kiffin’s comment as him eulogizing Leach; rather, he seemed to be stating he admires Coach Leach and hopes he makes a recovery.
It was the “reporter” who misrepresented Kiffin’s words.
The poster(?) was right to remove the tweet; I give him credit for doing so.
