Bo Jackson v. LSU

Bo was at Auburn from 1982 to 1985. I was curious how he did against LSU and looking back at old schedules it appears that they didn’t play LSU during his time at Auburn.

Yeah this was before expansion, the SEC schedule was a lot different and the rotation didn’t always have much rhyme or reason.
They probably asked the Bear what he thought and he didn’t want LSU playing Auburn for whatever reason so they scheduled it that way for a decade out.

LSU never faced Jackson, Walker or Manning (Peyton).

Believe Peyton did play once at LSU during the Hallman years. Tennessee won big as I recall.

Auburn always played Tennessee (1956-1992), MSU, UGA(1892-present), Florida(forever until after 2004 or so), Alabama, and whoever rotated on. Some years 6 conference games, some years 7.
Georgia Tech left SEZc in 1964, but Auburn continued to play them yearly until 1987 or so.
We rarely played LSU from 1934-1992.

I did get to see Steve Walsh and Jimmy Johnson destroy LSU in a horrible rain storm in Tiger stadium.

Damn and they complain about Bama getting UT every year?

LSU fans are complainers, in general. Refs, scheduling, TV broadcast times, anything.

LSU and Auburn rarely played prior to expansion in 1992. LSU has played A&M more times than they’ve faced Auburn, despite not being in the same conference until recently.
Despite not a lot of history between the two schools, it’s been one of the craziest and best rivalries since expansion. Actually, the craziness started with the earthquake game in ‘88.

Yes it’s weird. To this day we’ve played Texas A&M more times than we’ve played Auburn.

Tell us about your Vanderbilt rotation.

Actually, the rotation kind of set in around 1972, at least for LSU, with a 6-game league schedule:
Auburn in '72 and '73
Tennessee in '74 and '75
Vanderbilt in '76 and '77
Georgia in '78 and '79
Rotation was the same from 1980-87.
Auburn in '80 and '81
Tennessee in '82 and '83 (Reggie White tore up their arse in '83)
Vanderbilt in '84 and '85
Georgia in '86 and '87
Schedule expanded to 7 SEC games in 1988.
Auburn and Tennessee in '88 and '89
Vanderbilt and Georgia in '90 and '91.
League expanded and split into divisions with an 8-game schedule in '92.

He played against our Saints in the late 80's.
The Saints held him to 45 yards.......on 2 carries before he got injured.
I was in the Dome and I had a great angle on one of his runs when he turned the corner and left everyone behind. It was amazing to watch in real time such a big player outrun everyone. Thankfully someone had an angle to push him out of bounds.
Great athlete! Great football player! Great guy!
We got shortchanged by his short career.

I remember the 88-89 games were a huge deal because they had not played in years.

LSU typically went 7 years between playing Auburn, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Georgia, then would play them two years in a row before another 7-year break.
People don't realize this, but Florida-Tennessee and Georgia-Tennessee weren't annual matchups before 1992. And Alabama-Vanderbilt was an annual matchup before and after 1992, even until 2003, when the SEC went to a 5-1-2 rotation, dropping the 5-2-1 rotation set in 1992 with divisional play. LSU played Kentucky annually in that same period.
And realignment killed the Auburn-Tennessee annual matchup, and Auburn-Florida annually went away in 2003.
