Tide basketball team looks TOTALLY different!

Last night was the first chance I've had to see them this year, and I was blown away!
An extremely tall team playing their asses off on defense, rebounding everything that didn't go in on BOTH boards, a dozen of'em subbing in and out every few minutes while looking basically the same.
About the only thing familiar was all the errant 3-point shots they were throwing up (I must say though that I don't remember as many bricks from last year, as I saw last night).
I've got a feeling that this is gonna be a very...interesting year for Tide Basketball!

Defense is legit.
Offense is a work in progress. Lot of the guys aren't squaring up on their shot when shooting 3's.

Offensive rebounding was easily my favorite part about last night. Clowney/Bediako/Miller are an awesome trio.

Glad to see some turnover on BB team. We needed some new blood really bad. Hopefully they'll look better.

I am prolly in the minority here but so far I haven’t been overly impressed with Sears at point…. Anybody else that way or am I off base here ?

Offense looked like a bad AAU team last night in the half court sets.
Completely undisciplined and the shooters are nowhere near good enough to justify taking the shots we were seeing.

The defense should help keep them in almost every game and give them a chance even when the offense struggles. So more like the 2020-2021 team rather than the 2021-2022 team in that regard. Which is great.
Still seems like we don’t have the elite shooters that would make this team/Oats system a title contender. Small sample size but don’t see the the pure deadly shooters.
Still with better defense and the offensive rebounding and more guys that can create/get to the rim I think we have more ways to win this year and won’t be totally screwed when the 3 pt shot isn’t falling like we were last year.

Gurley should never shoot a 3 again
The bricks he was throwing were shocking

Major difference is a game like that for last year’s squad is an L every time if the 3 point shooting is off. This group gets after it on the boards and plays their tails off on defense. Like what I’ve seen so far!

Put me down as happy that no one has chastised the OP for starting a basketball related thread and not keeping all basketball commentary confined to the basketball megathread.

Nah. We like to keep the FOGs away as much as possible.
I was there last night. I definitely think those rims were tight as hell. Both teams had a couple dozen bounce in and out. There was definitely some first road game jitters. But overall there plenty of positives.
It's a very young team. So there's going to be inconsistency early on. But you can definitely see why we were the #3 class in the county. Miller is a monster. He's worth the price of admission alone. Griffen plays fearless, and hustles on both sides of the floor. Bradley is great at getting into the lane. Feels more like an old school PG, which works great for our offensive system. Clowney is so damn versatile. He's the 4 man we've been needing in Oat's system. He can switch to help on the perimeter or post, and can hit 3s.

Ive been longing for a 15 pts 12 rebounds guy in the Melvin Cheatam/Erwin Dudly mold for many years.
It appears as if we have a couple of them this year. These youngsters can smash the boards.
