Greg tries TOO hard to distance himself from Alabama.

East Coast, you are 100% right.

Everything in this thread is right so far. McElroy tries too hard to not be a homer. McElroy is right to be concerned.

Heard him on Finebaum yesterday...probably saying the same things as in the clips that were posted...and he was doing anything but distancing himself from Bama. Very honest assessment of our lack of talent at multiple positions relative to past years...there is no Minkah or Dre or Mark Barron or Reuben or JAllen on this defense at those positions. But he laid most of the blame on the coaching staff and said basically that Saban needs to clean house. Mentioned Kareem Jackson and Chance Warmack who were three-star recruits who were developed into first-round draft picks. Mentioned Pendry and the need for an OL coach in his mode. Said Jeremy Pruitt doesn't have a show cause and that Saban should bring him back. Even mentioned Kevin Steele as someone who would help our defense. Very honest assessment, and I couldn't disagree with a word he said. He was talking a mile a minute, so he put a lot of stuff out there...all accurate.

I think we have one of those. One of the few spots I actually feel encouraged about moving forward.
I heard the G-Mac interview and what he said is basically the same stuff most people have been saying, just with a little more oomph behind it because of his internal knowledge of the program. At this point the good news is there is no more whistling past the graveyard. Everyone sees it, both inside and out, fan and rival. And if that is the case, Saban clearly sees it.

I was also encouraged that he was the first commentator with his status who has said we should bring back Pruitt.
Jeremy Pruitt will likely never get another head coaching job. He needs to be back on campus yesterday and back on the sidelines calling defenses ASAP.

Saban responds.
quote:
“We work every day to try to play to a standard and we’ve had a lot of good teams around here for a long time‚” he said, per AL.com. “We lost two games by a total of four points, both on the last play of the game. Are there are a lot of things we could do better? Are we satisfied with where we are as a team? Absolutely not.
“But at the same time, sometimes when the standard is so high, there may be some occasion where you don’t quite meet the standard and the expectation that everybody has for you. I do think that standard and expectation has not been something that has helped this team focus on the right things. Stay focused on the process, not get so concerned about the results you get, but what you’ve got to do to get the results. That’s something we’ve been trying to emphasize with them.”

Don't be concerned about results, as in the points on the scoreboard? Ok. But being concerned about results as in playing to the standard? Even Saban knows that concern should be there. He preaches it. Did you play to the standard?

I heard him on WJOX Monday morning. A caller was saying he went to the game on Saturday and was seated where he could clearly see the whole field. The caller questioned the routes the WRs were running during the game.
GMac went into a three minute rant and said the Alabama wide receivers "are awful". He said they run terrible routes, they can't get separation and they are unreliable catching the ball.

That quote troubles me. I don't feel like I've ever heard Saban say something like "but the games were close though."

It certainly isn’t a vintage Saban quote

We still have a young team at many positions but people were spoiled when freshman had stepped to win a NC.
I just one mock draft and it had Young #1 with Anderson at #3. Also Branch and Gibbs going in the 1st. Who knows what team will take who but the reality is until we start developing players it will not matter how good they could be.

Jeremy Pruitt would be a dream DC.

With NIL and the portal , we have got to find a way to get young players involved . They shouldn’t have to know EVERY play and check to get on the field . Find something they CAN do. 3 young receivers from LA, Preston , Law, Anderson…. Just sad that we can’t .

What was everyone saying in 2010 when a Bama team more talented than this one lost three games?

en·ti·tle·ment
the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment

Pretty much describes our fanbase as well.

I've been saying this for a while. A guy who is supposed to plant and cut 90 degrees square across the field, instead drifts. On 3rd and 8 we run our routes a yard or two short of the sticks. When Bryce is running for his life, guys don't break off and come back to him. Our guys are horrible route runners.

Nothing at all like what is being said now. We said it was the most talented team in the country but had gotten lazy and entitled and thought we would win just by showing up, instead of working even harder than the year before.
