How many coaches will it take to get Am back to the top 25 after Fisher.

Look at FSU Willie Taggart had no chance because Fisher put it in the gutter. Norvell was winning 10 games a year at Memphis and has to nearly kill himself just to get it back to 4-3.
I say no great to elite level coach would come. We might get a young coach from FCS looking for money.

Boosters and idiot leadership will keep top coaches away after the Fisher mess.

Ain’t no way they are paying that buyout. Don’t care how much oil money there is.

Norvell should have stayed at Memphis

I wouldn’t put much stock into this given his predecessor’s struggles at VT.

I think it's less about money and more about face. Huge embarrassment to give that amount of guaranteed cash without winning anything of note, then having to pay it off.

They're going to hope he recruits enough raw talent to luck themselves into 8-9 win seasons (unlikely this year) until he's been there long enough where it's less embarrassing.

If/when Jimblow finally leaves IMHO it's going to take YEARS for 4&8 to recover.

If Aggie can run him off some way (humiliation, social isolation, boosters turning off the NIL spigot, or Pruitt'ing him), no reputable coach will come within three states of that program for years. It will probably take two or three "meh" coaches in the interim for that sour taste to go away, regardless of how many Brinks trucks Aggie tries to back up to a potential coach's house.

If Jumbo leaves amicably, of his own accord, I still think Aggie will be in purgatory for a coach or two because of the potential for overcorrection with the next hire. The aTm BOD got BOHICA'd through and through by Sexton and Jimblow, and there's no way they're going to let that happen again. So the next coach will probably (and likely undeservedly) have to work under some draconian oversight because of the ash-heap that Jimbo will leave behind.

No two ways about it, I think Aggie is in for a world of hurt for the next 5-10 years, regardless of what happens.

What do you mean “back” to the top 25? How is your fanbase so fricking delusional? Y’all are never ranked in the top 25. Y’all have finished the season ranked in the top 25 exactly 5 times in the past 22 years and one of those was the joke Covid year.

Excluding RC Slocum, who had y’all ranked in the AP postseason 10 times in his tenure, y’all have only finished in the there 14 times in your entire football history.

Do you honestly believe that y’all need to “get back to being in the top 25”? How about you start getting there relatively consistently without it being a preseason overrated mistake then talk about getting back there. Threads like this are why everyone hates y’all FYI

That’s exactly it.

And while I don’t know the numbers. I assume if they kept him until 2026, there is still a buyout of over 20mm.

With that said, he may hire an OC that fits and positive things can happen.

I mean, I dont even know the last A&M coach to not have a team get ranked in the top 25. Sumlin, Sherman, even Franchonie, RC Slocum, Sherill..... It's not a hard thing to do.

Whoever takes over wont have a "bare cubboard" to work with, Jimbo has recruited well, which is why the fanbase is so mad at him, there's plenty of talent on the roster that he shouldnt have this type of record at this point. So the next guy likely wont have a massive rebuild in front of him.

I almost said Shaun Alexander vs LSU
1996 - 20 carries, 292 yards, 4 TDS
1997 - DNP
1998 - 22 carries, 109 yards, 4 catches, 60 yards, 1 TD

1999 - Bama won, but not a good game for Shaun. Crazy game though - 7 picks between both teams, LSU drove 79 yards on the final drive to come up just short (that one drive accounted for over 1/3 of LSU's yardage that game)

I’ve said that a few times about Aggie’s suicide strategy and have been wrong every time.

Fisher might get another year, depends on how the team responds. But never say never ...

Weird question. It would only take one coach if it was the right hire.

Not this day and age with the portal. Ask Willie Taggart about following Jimbo.

Hell, ask O how fast a roster can dwindle from a natty to the dump in 2 years

Top 25 isn't hard to attain. RC Slocum was T25 with a terrible offense as well. T10 is a completely different matter, and a different level
