One of our problems is that we are fractured as a fanbase, and as an alumni group on who is “the” coach to go after. Mal Moore went after Nick Saban and wouldn’t take “no” for an answer, and everybody was behind it.

There is no such coach for Auburn people right now, but the CLOSEST is Lane Kiffin. That’sa god place to start. I say we back up the Brinks truck and make him say “no”. Maybe we end up with a different coach, but that’s where we start. We exhaust all resources to land him, and then adjust if it doesn’t happen. But I think if we all row in the same direction he might come. We have what he wants… A rabid fan base that shows up every Saturday. A better recruiting ground, better facilities, more NIL money, and an opportunity to punk two guys he desperately wants to beat.

After what Lane Kiffin did to Tennessee, he cannot be trusted. Besides, our team beat Old Miss last year. That doesn't say much for his ability.

If you're the same person you were 13 years ago, congrats.

By this theory then, Saban is washed since he lost to a mediocre Jimbo Fisher team last year too.

I bet you don't believe that he did the nasty with Saban's daughter either. That was not 13 years ago.

I doubt that. All message board fodder to try and explain Saban’s mistake of firing him early only to be proven to look like a dummy when Sark couldn’t pull through as a replacement.

I think the most people would be good with Kiffin. But those that oppose would be quite opposed. Similar to how Freeze would play out, except there are a lot less people who would be good with him to begin with.

I think you raise a good point but I’m just not sure who that consensus guy really is. I don’t think it’s Kiffin even though he’s probably my top choice rn.

Kiffin would be an improvement over Harsin but so would some of the posters on this board. If we are really that desperate then so be it. But if, as the OP suggests, we are going to offer an insane amount of money, then let's try to get Dave Aranda or Ryan Day. If we get turned down by the good coaches , we can consider Kiffin.

Kiffen is way more impressive than Dave Aranda. Not that Dave is bad.

I want Prime, but Kiffen would be a great hire.

He is 0-1 vs. Harson, let that sink in. Possible going to be 0-2 after this weekend.

I think all fans are really apprehensive about any coach that we may hire. Even the one they really are backing.

I believe we all want sustained success and to raise Auburn’s profile to be a contender in the SEC and nation again. To be on equal terms with our biggest rivals. How are we going to get there?

The names being discussed the most now have positives and they carry risks. Which is normal but being where we stand today we all are hoping for a Bruce Pearl type rising from the ashes like a Phoenix. I don’t think our fan base can handle another major disappointment and watch our program fall further behind.

I just hope we can figure it out. My biggest concern is being in the same scenario two to three years from now.

Getting a really good AD is a crucial step. I don’t think any other coaches are being talked to until that happens.

"Did the nasty"?

Just say they fricked.

And if he did, good for him. She's not my cup of tea, but good for him.

I say frick it. Go pay Deion and let the chips fall where they may. Hell, he may even get a statue put up for his efforts like Bo and Barkley.

You bring up a good point. Not sure I'd be happy with Saban. We need to go out and find a sure thing. Can't afford to bungle this one.

Edit: Note that this is sarcasm. Just cracks me up when people are like "well two years ago he lost to [insert middling team]... definitely not a safe hire".

He was 34, he's 47 now. I certainly did some maturing during that window.

He was also going to his dream job.

quote:

“It’s not like I was at Tennessee going, ‘OK, there’s 20 better jobs, and when one opens, I’m going,’” Kiffin said. “If you’re at Tennessee, outside of USC, because of how special it was to me, I don’t know where you would go.”

He is not my top choice but I certainly wouldn’t mind Lane. What he does with quarterbacks, not only developing them but setting up and molding the perfect system that fits each one, is nothing short of phenomenal.

My money says he can easily be wooed to other jobs and Auburn is definitely one of those. He loves nothing more than poking the modern day “Bear.”
