Easy for me, number one is the 1979 Sugar Bowl between Bama and Penn St. I don't want to hear about that was the 70's or whatever. The 3rd down on the goal line stand PSU ran Guman straight ahead but on the TE side PSU had lined up Matt Suhey and he and Rich Wingo went at other like 2 crazy people from about 4 yds away. The sounds of those 2 teams colliding with each other has stayed with me to this day.

I was also lucky enough to be at the orange bowl in jan 1986 when OU and PSU met for the title and Bosworth Giftopolis, Shane Conlan, tony Casillias...there would have been 10 guys out with concussions today and 20 targeting calls. This one is a close second.

Any Auburn LSU game from early 2000s in Tiger Stadium.

Just dudes knocking the frick out of each other.

Pure football.

1990 TSIO, 9-6 final. Both defenses hit hard and full of hits that would be penalties today.

Jordan-Hare too. 2002, 2004, 2006, all absolutely nasty, fun to watch football.

2006 Auburn-LSU was a violent game.

I wasn’t there in person, but the 2007 Alabama-LSU game had some big hits. Miles vs Old School Saban football.

Was one sided but Arizona-LSU 2006 was an absolute bloodbath. Thought a few of their players might die that day

I've seen so many, it's hard to pick just one. But, here's my favorite game that was extremely physical on both sides....

1974 #5 Notre Dame (defending 1973 national champions) @ #6 USC Trojans (1972 national champions)

-- Trojans were down 24-6 at the half.

-- Trojans ROARED out of halftime and scored 35 POINTS in the 3rd quarter!!

-- Led by Anthony Davis, USC literally ROSE FROM THE DEAD at the half and cemented one of the biggest comebacks in NCAA history.

-- Anthony Davis took the 2nd half KO and raced down the field in less than 20 seconds to lead the comeback.

-- Anthony Davis scored 26 of the Trojans first 27 points!

-- The Trojans scored 55 points in just 17 minutes!!

-- With 11 minutes left in the game in the 4th quarter, USC's HC McKay called off his troops and put in the reserves the rest of the way (as you can see on the scoreboard below).

-- USC won, 55-24, and won the 1974 UPI National Championship (Oklahoma was voted the AP champion).

To this day, it's the BEST game I've ever seen in my life for sheer drama and excitement. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum was rocking and rolling that day!

Auburn LSU 2006 was absolutely brutal. Both teams could have won the natty that year but neither were the same after that game. I think both finished 11-2

2006 AU-LSU immediately came to mind too. You could hear pads popping high up into the stands.

Take your pick LSU —Alabama 2009–2012. All close games. All physical games. All had a large volume of high quality defensive players on the field.
