Why did the SEC go after Texas when we already had aTm with a big market?

Oklahoma I could understand as a new market value. We all know Ut (Texas) is gonna try pushing their chit around and trying to be the big boy in all things SEC sports related.
I have no problem with Oklahoma joining, but Texas? Too many on here take shots at aTm, but truth is, not a one of us would put up with the UT CHIT and we all know it. SEC is better off with A&M.
LSU fans hate A&M but they were the right fit for the SEC. We could argue about Mizzou but they do give us a new state market for SEC TV etc.

Texas gives you even more tv sets?

The Aggie market isn't as big as Aggies like to believe it is.

Because they wanted Oklahoma and couldn't get Oklahoma without Texas if I had to guess. Seems like they were a package deal.

I want to see matthew mcconaughey cry, so I'm ok with it.

Because it's no longer about TV markets. Load up on the biggest brands available without doing something illogical like grabbing West Coast teams when most of your league is east or central.

Wish we wouldn't have taken Texas and all the conferences would have stayed as is. But if the SEC thought the B1G was planning expansion, it makes sense to grab Texas to keep them from the B1G. They're a national brand in what is now the most important state for the conference

I would say we currently have the "Wannabe Military School" with Texas A&M. Texas is the "Wannabe Berkeley", totally different people. Will be a battle of the '60s, Hippies vs Vets.

Here's a take that doesn't get mentioned as much — renewing a rivalry with Texas A&M will generate huge ad revenues, as will marquee games like Alabama/Oklahoma, Georgia/Texas, etc.
It's not only about eyeballs, it's about dominating both sides of the marketing revenue produced when you control the rights to both teams on the field.

Texas has more appeal both in Texas and nationwide than A&M. It’s a no brainer.

Simply because of the size of the state.

Just trying to make sense of it all. All you guys always mocking A&M, why? Because of tradition with cheerleaders .?
Would you rather have Austin Woke Texas Person to deal with, slap you, curse you, just game days, but some Woke idiot took a snap shot of you defending your space and it makes twitter and facebook, and forever you look like the bad guy?
Austin, Texas has beem hijacked by the Liberal left extremist....except now they might need more cops beause crime is bad.....now in politician hoods.

The Texas brand.
TV markets are no longer a major factor.
Brands = $$$.

To exclude the B1G from the Texas markets. It was a good strategy. We just hated giving THOSE COCKSUCKING PIECE OF shite MOTHERfrickERS A GODDAMN LIFELINE WHEN THEY WERE DYING ON THE VINE.
But, I digress.

Because if Texas wanted out, if not the SEC, you can bet the Big Ten would have been interested
Plus you bring two huge rivalries to the conf with Aggies and Horns plus OU and Texas

The "aggie market" can be more accurately defined as "parts of Houston"

Texas is a big state. So SEC got both of the biggest schools in Texas. Will be fun watching UT vs ATM again. Add in now the UT vs OU in Dallas is a SEC game
Imagine being a OU /TX fan going from road games to kansas, kansas st, Lubbock, Waco etc.. To road games at bama, LSU,ole miss, UF etc...
