Link?
He will rush from the edge. But he will be 3 tech as well. He may even bump down over center on 3rd and long.
He does everything at a high level.
The goal is to pressure offenses with the front 4. He is the type of impact player who wins the line of scrimmage. That permits 2 high safeties. And that is how you beat Mahomes and Brady.

Swing and a miss. This is a perfect Kirby can't develop but the NFL knows it can lob. WTF is wrong with you?

True. There were at least a half dozen Georgia players as good or better. Kelee Ringo comes to mind, Did you see his pick six?

You're really tied up on this stat...
how many sacks did you have over the last 3 years???
what about 10 years??
Cant go back any further cause you'd be in diapers and the assumption you'd get a sack at that age is highly unlikely.

He was drafted #1 because he had a fast 40. We all know that to be true.
You seem to be the only one to "know" this to be true. You have no idea what intangibles he has, or even what position he played, yet you "know" why an NFL team picked him.

He was drafted TO BE AN EDGE RUSHER.
And yet that is not the position he played in college. His size, speed etc, indicate he will be excellent as an edge rusher in the NFL, do they not?
Show me some reports panning Walker being picked. It was widely reported before the draft that there was a good chance Walker would be the #1 pick....but yeah. You know better.
I notice you still refuse to name who you thought should have gone #1?
I also repeat that I am not arguing that Walker should have gone #1, just that it was expected and not all that much of a stretch.
So, who in your opinion should have been picked?

1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Travon Walker, EDGE, Georgia, 6-foot-5, 272 pounds, 4.51 40-yard dash
An exceptional prospect whose talents were hidden at Georgia because opposing offenses were unable to generate enough first downs to give anyone much opportunity to pad their statistics, Walker is already a star. With the gifts, motor and fit in this Jacksonville scheme, he should ascend to superstardom early in his NFL career. He and Josh Allen will be a formidable tandem for years. Grade: A
Travon Walker grade
Apparently some think Walker is okay.

It’s almost like he wasn’t asked to be a pass rusher in the defense he was in.
In modern CF where teams throw 40+ times/game? He wasn't "asked" to get to the QB?

UGA dominated line of scrimmages with big, athletic DL and simulated pressures.
Blitz Nakobe Dean, blitz Quay Walker, blitz Channing Tindall.
But that also means dropping Nolan Smith and/or Travon Walker into coverage.
That also means spiking Travon to free up the linebacker or looping lineman.
And then on obvious passing downs, we slide Travon inside (0, 1, 2, or 3 tech) where he usually is not getting the benefit of a 7 or wide 9 start.
And all of that is ignoring the gap discipline scheme where Travon is playing run first and then converting to pass rush on 3/5 of his first and second down snaps.

He’s the worst 1st overall since Jamarcus Russell

Modern FB involves also mobile qbs and strategies to keep them in the pocket. Your silly ideas would lead to qbs running all over the field.

Seems like a gamble to take him #1, but I've seen much worse #1 picks, mainly QBs, and he seems to have all the tools, so maybe it will work out of them. It was a weird, kind of weak draft this year, so its not shocking that the Jags went with him.

I dont watch a lot of NFL.
But Georgia's gap discipline on 1st and 2nd down led to the most 3rd down attempts in the conference, the most 3rd and 7+ yard attempts in the conference, and ultimately the most punt attempts in the conference.
When gauging the success of the defense (all-timer), success of the team (national championship with 13 wins by 14+ points), and #1 draft pick of Travon Walker, i would say that the coaching staff did a helluva job getting the players in a scheme that dominated games and prepared the players for the Pros.

272 is a bit light to play DT in the NFL. Could do that in obvious passing downs where inside rush speed would be beneficial.....but generally he is an edge rush guy in nfl....
Don’t shoot the messenger lots of people think this pick is a reach. See link....

It depends on what you are asking him to do.
If it is 3rd and long, he is going to give a center/guard hell at 272.
If he is a 3 tech and asked to spike across the guards face, he is going to bring hell.
If he is a 3 tech and asked to 2 gap consistently... yeah. He is going to struggle on inside zone plays. He may struggle converting run to pass.
How active Jacksonville wants their front 4 to be will dictate how he is used.

That wasn't his primary job, no. He played 0,1,3 and 5 tech all across the DLine. He was not an edge rusher in college per se.
We rotated our DLine a ton and he played towards the middle of the line as much as the end. Our primary pass rushers were:
Adam Anderson
Robert Beal
Nakobe Dean
Channing Tindall
Nolan Smith
Quay Walker

From your link:
While analysts widely praised the move as a savvy one, it was far from universal.
You just going to ignore the first part?

It wasn't a weak draft at all, but there were no prospects that stood out from the others in the top 7 or so. Bad year to have the #1 pick.
